McTays Appointed Doosan Marine Agent

McTays, the shipbuilding subsidiary of HS Ocean Holdings (HSOH), says it has signed an agreement to distribute Doosan Marine Diesel Engines in the UK, Nigeria, Gabon and Congo. The partnership will be officially launched at Seawork 2014, the International Commercial Marine Exhibition and Forum held in Southampton June 10-12, 2014.

McTays will supply both mechanical engines and next generation electronically controlled engines which comply with European emission criteria. Potential customers include the fishing fleets operating off the UK coast, as well as tugs, crew transfer vessels, passenger ferries and offshore supply and support vessels.

Merseyside-based McTays has a 6-acre site including a fully equipped build hall and engineering workshop opening directly on to a newly upgraded slipway capable of accommodating vessels up to 2,000 tonnes.

The most recent vessel built by McTays, the Multi-Role Vessel (MRV) Vital for Carmet Tugs, was fitted with a Doosan marine diesel engine.

Peter Breslin, Managing Director of MCTAYS, said: “We are delighted to have signed an agreement enabling MCTAYS to act as agent for Doosan Marine Diesel Engines in the UK, Nigeria, Gabon and Congo and we look forward to providing a valuable service to this emerging market over the coming months and years.

“Doosan Engine is rightly recognised as an industry leader in the production of diesel engines for the marine sector. Through experience and constant innovation, Doosan has developed next generation electronically controlled diesel engines which we are excited about being able to distribute along with its existing mechanical engines in these key territories.”
