New Ferry Being Built for Christian Island, Ontario

An infrastructure upgrade project is underway on Christian Island, Ontario, and one of the main components of the project is the construction of a new double-ended ferry (DEF) – a so-called “Floating Bridge” from the mainland to the island. Christian Island is located in Canada in Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay. Corvus' Energy Storage Systems for Harvey Gulf's Offshore Vessels

Corvus Energy, an energy storage solutions provider for the offshore energy industry, has won a contract with Wärtsilä to deliver its Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for the offshore support vessel fleet operated by U.S.-based Harvey Gulf.According to Corvus, the orders follow the successful sea trial of Harvey Energy, the first-ever LNG-battery hybrid retrofit of a platform supply vessel (PSV) in the Americas. Harvey Gulf CEO, Shane Guidry has reported that clients and investors are increasingly demanding energy efficiency and emissions reduction.

Carnival's New Cruise Ship Bunkers LNG in Rotterdam

Carnival Cruise Line’s new cruise ship Mardi Gras made its first port call Tuesday in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where the ship will refuel its liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion system for the first time after delivery.Mardi Gras, set to begin sailing from Port Canaveral, Fla., next year, will be the first cruise ship in the Americas to be powered by LNG.In its liquefied state, LNG is odorless, colorless, more environmentally friendly and less expensive than other fuels. LNG is considered the marine industry’s most advanced fuel technology.

Svitzer Inks Global Services Deal with Caterpillar Marine

Engines manufacturer Caterpillar announced Tuesday it has signed a global services agreement with the the world’s largest tug operator, Svitzer, covering more than 100 vessels powered by Cat Marine engines in 30-plus countries. Scania Expands Partnership with Maritimo

Engine manufacturer Scania is expanding its its longstanding partnership with luxury yacht builder Maritimo to include boats built for the United States and Canada. Effective immediately, Scania’s 16-liter V8 and 13-liter in-line six-cylinder engines with industry-leading power-to-weight ratio will be standard fit on the Maritimo X50R and X60R – Performance Editions of the company’s range of X-Series sport motor yachts.Maritimo’s X50R will house twin 800 HP DI13 Scania engines, while the X60R will feature twin 1,150 HP DI16’s.

Wärtsilä to Refit Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker

Finland's Wärtsilä reports it has won a contract for the delivery and integration engineering of two retractable thrusters and a dynamic positioning (DP) system for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) icebreaker CCGS Amundsen.Wärtsilä, which booked the order in July, said it was able to meet the CCG’s requirements to fit the equipment in the existing space of the 98-meter-long Arctic Class 3 Medium Icebreaker, the only vessel in its class to be fitted with retractable thrusters and DP. The new thrusters will be integrated with the existing bow thruster, which is also a Wärtsilä product.

Mitsubishi Unveils New Marine Propulsion Engine

Mitsubishi Turbocharger and Engine America (MTEA) has introduced Mitsubishi’s new mechanical controlled, EPA Tier 4, 1,260-horsepower heavy-duty marine propulsion engine.The Mitsubishi S12R Tier 4 is a 49-liter, V-12, 1,260-horsepower marine propulsion engine operating at 1,600 rpm. While the engine offers simple mechanical controls and big displacement, it utilizes SCR technology in meeting the NOx Tier 4 emission requirements.
