Incat Tasmania Exports 111m Ferry to Spain
Incat Tasmania’s newest 111-meter ferry has been handed over to her new Spanish operator Naviera Armas and departed Hobart late last night (16 July) for Spain.The ship, named Volcan de Tagoro (Incat Hull 091) is impressive in her distinctive red Naviera Armas livery. 091 completed sea trials over the past few days, loaded fuel and supplies yesterday for the delivery voyage to Spain, and has now left Australia.The delivery will be via Auckland, across the Pacific Ocean to Tahiti and the Panama Canal before crossing the Atlantic on her way to Spain.
Shipbuilding: New 110m Catamaran Named Saint John Paul II
Shipbuilder Incat has launched the 110m vehicle / passenger ferry from the shipyard at Derwent Park in Hobart Tasmania. The ship will commence sea trials in mid January prior to delivery to her new owner Virtu Ferries for service between Malta and Sicily.Bearing the livery Saint John Paul II the vessel has been named in honor of the Pope who served from 1978 to 2005, so revered the Pope has often posthumously, but unofficially, been referred to by Catholics as "St. John Paul the Great".

Paraguay’s Tsuneishi Shipyard, a subsidiary of the Japanese firm of the same name, recently delivered the powerful towboat Tebicuary 3 to her owners Navegación del Sur S.A. (Navesur) in June of 2018. Propulsion specialist REINTJES continues with the expansion of its worldwide sales and service network with a new branch office in Paraguay. The new office opened March 1 to service the markets of Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and the south of Chile. The new office will be managed by Marcelo Escondeur, already a business partner for REINTJES in his position as general manager of the distributor Hardo Consulting Cono Sur Srl. In May of 2016 the Argentinian-designed and built 28.77 by 10.2-meter ASD tug Brutus went to work in the harbor at Buenos Aries. This marked a milestone in Argentinian maritime affairs, as it is, at 5,400 HP, the most powerful ship-handling tug in the country. The tug was designed by Ing. GE Inks Turbine Service Deal for Fastest Commercial Ship
GE Marine announced it will provide Buquebus, Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a customized service agreement for the two GE LM2500 gas turbines aboard the Francisco fast ferry. The 10-year agreement provides for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the dual fuel gas turbines that power the world’s fastest commercial ship. “We worked closely with Buquebus to fashion a gas turbine maintenance agreement that would meet their specific needs and ensure reliable operation of this very popular fast ferry,” said Brien Bolsinger, Vice President, Marine Operations, GE Marine, Evendale, Ohio.

New Trawler for Argentine Family
With 4,989 kilometers of Atlantic coastline, Argentina looks to commercial fishing as an important contributor to the Argentinian economy. The promotion of the maritime resources is dependent on quality boats capable of delivering quality product. This spring just such a vessel joined the Argentine trawler fleet. The 20.8 by 6.6-meter FV Don Franco was designed and built by the Contessi Shipyard at Mar del Plata, Argentina’s largest fishing port 400 kilometers south of Buenos Aires. Owned by the Galeano family, the new vessel is classed by RINA and will replace their older boat the Galme I.
Unidelta: Twin ASD Tugs From Argentina
Best known for modern, innovative passenger catamarans, Astilleros Unidelta SA of Buenos Aires is currently building an innovative tug. The aziumthing stern-drive (ASD) ship-handling tug is now being built at the Argentinian yard. The first, in an anticipated series, will be for the maritime group SIPSA. The boat will have twin Cummins QSK60-M propulsion package. Each of the Cummins mains will deliver 1958 kW at 1800 RPM to a Rolls Royce Z-drive with 2400 m/m diameter propellers in nozzles. This combination is designed to give the ASD tugs a 61-ton bollard pull.

Interferry to Unveil Approach on Alternative Fuels
A ferry operator’s experience of ‘the fastest ship in the world’ will feature among the cutting-edge initiatives being aired at Interferry’s 38th annual conference in Malta from October 5-9. The trade association event gives South American operator Buquebus a first opportunity to showcase the commercial and technical benefits of its revolutionary newbuild Francisco. Delivered in August from Australian builder Incat Tasmania, the catamaran is the world’s first high speed dual fuel ro-ro to use LNG as its primary fuel. Incat made the “fastest ship” claim after sea trials in June.
