Volvo Penta Expands Commitment to WWF

Volvo Penta is expanding its commitment to the WWF Climate Savers program by including its medium-duty engines. Cummins Tech for IMO Tier III

Volvo Penta Launches IMO Tier III D8 Engine

Designed for heavy duty propulsion and genset applications, Volvo Penta has revealed a D8 engine and after treatment system that meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III at the Nor-Shipping international exhibition and conference in Norway.Volvo Penta is launching a new D8 engine and after-treatment concept to comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards. The IMO Tier III regulation will stipulate a reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx) emitted of around 75 per cent – depending on engine size – when compared to current IMO Tier II levels.

Upgraded Wärtsilä 20 Engine Attracts Multiple Orders

Wärtsilä has received a series of notable orders for the upgraded version of its Wärtsilä 20 engine.A total of 33 engines have been ordered for merchant auxiliary power application in three major shipbuilding projects. The orders, which were booked in June, have been contracted with Wärtsilä Qiyao Diesel Company Ltd (WQDC), the joint venture company of Wärtsilä and Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI).The engines will be installed in 11 new vessels being built in shipyards owned by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

Scania: Propelling the Passenger Vessel Market

Scania advances into 2018 on the strength of prior year successes and new visibility in one of the North American marine industry’s hottest sectors. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the first two passenger vessels built by Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark for Entertainment Cruises’ Potomac Riverboat Company division were delivered to Washington, D.C. Both are now in service. The two 88’, 149-passenger high speed aluminum catamaran vessels – the Potomac Taxi I and Potomac Taxi II – departed Metal Shark’s Franklin, La.

John Deere Rolls Out Trio of Marine Engines

John Deere Power Systems has expanded its lineup with three new marine engines available for order from early 2018. The new 4.5L PowerTech 4045SFM85 offers high power to weight ratio for repowering and new vessel construction, and is ideal for planing and semi-displacement hulls, the manufacturer said. It has two ratings for light-duty commercial vessels, high-speed governmental applications and high-speed pleasure craft, which includes an M4 rating with 205 kW (275 hp) at 2,600 rpm and M5 rating with 235 kW (315 hp) at 2,800 rpm. Continuing its North American service network expansion, Scania has named Kraft Power as its newest marine distributor. John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will exhibit an auxiliary power unit equipped with a PowerTech Plus 9.0L industrial diesel engine that meets U.S. EPA Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. The PowerTech 6090HF485 is a radiator-cooled, dry-exhaust-manifold auxiliary engine that is ideal for powering a variety of deck auxiliaries including pumps, winches, cranes, hydraulics and generators. Finning Offers New MaK Engines

Finning Power Systems (Finning) announced the availability of the MaK M 25 E and M 32 E engines, for the global marine industry. Finning Power Systems (Finning), the dealer of MaK engines in the UK, Panama and Central America, is now offering the MaK M 25 E and M 32 E engine. Suitable for use in offshore and coastal cargo vessels, the MaK 25 E could help to save up to 40 tons of fuel per year when operating at variable engine speed, depending on the specific installation and application, the manufacturer said.
