'World's First' Zero Emission Marine Biofuel Test Successful

Netherlands-based supplier of sustainable low carbon marine fuels GoodFuels Marine in conjunction with bulker and tanker owner and operator NORDEN A/S,  has successfully completed trials of the world’s first zero emission, ‘drop in’ Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO)-equivalent marine biofuel – almost entirely reducing all carbon and sulphur emissions.A press release from the pioneer in sustainable marine fuels said that the culmination of three years extensive research and development with partners including Royal Dutch Boskalis and technology group Wärtsilä…

Boskalis is Exploring Biofuels

Dutch dredging and offshore contractor Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. said it will run its vessels on a biofuel blend while working on a project to install the export cable to the Borssele offshore wind farm.The Borssele Alpha project is being executed on behalf of TenneT and is aimed at connecting the Borssele offshore grid with the Dutch high-voltage grid.During this project, Boskalis will run its vessels on a biofuel blend of up to 30 percent. Giant Cutter Dredger Gearbox Delivered

Customer approval in powertrain technology depends specifically and to a great extent on the reliability and robustness of the facilities and in particular on their individual components. These include the gearbox and gear wheels of the specialist transmission manufacturer, C u. W Keller GmbH & Co.KG (KELLER). The high customer requirements can be met by the custom made gearbox manufacturer Keller with its experience in the design and manufacture of gear wheels and gearbox that spans more than 100 years.

GE Marine Powered Tugs Delivered to SAAM

SAAM has taken delivery of its first two tugs to be powered by GE Marine. These new 80-ton RAstar 3200 terminal support tugs include two 8L250 GE Marine diesel engines. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd. and built at Guangdong Bonny Fair Heavy Industry Limited in China, the tugs will operate out of Uruguay. “Arriero,” reached its new home port of Montevideo on November 16 and the second tug, “Maneador,” is currently en route. Two additional vessels ordered by SAAM and also to be powered by GE Marine, the “Yunco” and “Huairavo” will sail out of Chile.

Boskalis’ Fleet May Switch to Marine Biofuels

Boskalis today announced their collaboration with GoodFuels and Wärtsilä in a two-year pilot program to accelerate the development of truly sustainable, scalable and affordable marine bio-fuels. Bio-fuels today are not part of the marine fuel mix that operators and owners can choose from. This means that shipping is missing an opportunity to utilize what should be a price competitive, environmentally friendly fuel option. Europort Brings Offshore Shipbuilding into Focus

The offshore market remains buoyant, with exploration and production driving new fleet investment, design innovation in vessel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Operations in more challenging offshore environments are also demanding enhanced vessel maneuverability, station-keeping and overall safety, in line with tightening regulations. The sector’s opportunities and its cutting edge technology will be on show at Europort 2013, the maritime exhibition taking place at Ahoy Rotterdam November 5-8, 2013, said Raymond Silliakus, Europort Exhibition Manager.

Boskalis Says Funding in Place for Dockwise Acquisition

Boskalis states it has financing in place to make an all cash voluntary public offer for all ordinary shares of Dockwise. With reference to the press release of 21 December 2012 in which Boskalis announced its decision to make an all cash voluntary public offer for all the issued and outstanding ordinary shares of Dockwise at a price of EUR 18.50 per share cum dividend (the Offer), Boskalis hereby confirms that it has the necessary funds available to finance the Offer. The Offer values Dockwise at EUR 733 million with an enterprise value of approximately EUR 1.25 billion.

Jumbo Wins EnQuest Offshore Contract

Jumbo has been awarded a North Sea FPSO mooring, installation and hook-up contract by EnQuest. EnQuest is redeveloping the Ardmore and Duncan fields as Alma and Galia respectively. The project scope is the mooring spread installation and FPSO tow out and hook up. This will be the first offshore project in which Jumbo will act as the main contractor and not as a subcontractor. EnQuest is redeveloping the Alma and Galia fields, located in Blocks 30/24, 30/25 and 30/29, 310km south-east of Aberdeen in the UK North Sea.

Boskalis Intends to Buy Dockwise

The addition of Dockwise's activities to the Boskalis group will provide an extensive package of services for clients in the oil and gas sector. The new combination will be in a better position to serve clients with the optimal deployment of people and equipment under increasingly complex circumstances worldwide. Combining the vessels of Dockwise with the project management expertise and engineering know-how of Boskalis will also enable a fast track implementation of the strategic ambition to execute Transport & Installation (T&I) projects.

Smit Lamnalco Wins Significant Contract in Iraqi Waters

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) associate company Smit Lamnalco wins Single Point Moorings (SPM) support contract from Petrofac. The contract is to support Single Point Mooring operations 20 km off the Al Fao Peninsula for the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP). The annual contract value is approximately US$-70 million (Boskalis share 50%) and services will commence November 2012. The Single Point Mooring (SPM) contract covers operations and maintenance of four SPM systems.

Singapore Shipyard Delivers Three High-tech Offshore Vessels

Imtech Marine has successfully completed three innovative new-build vessel projects in Singapore; Seven Borealis for Subsea 7, Rockpiper for a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster NV and Flintstone for Tideway, part of the DEME Group. The ships will all operate in the oil and gas market. The supply package for two of the three ships includes advanced dynamic positioning (DP), diesel electric propulsion, vessel management (VMS), automation, navigation and communication.

Austal Vessel Ehances Wind Farm Ops

Building on its initial success in the renewable energy market, Austal has confirmed a contract for a fourth wind farm support vessel for Turbine Transfers Limited. The order is the first for a new Austal design which will enable safer and more efficient offshore wind turbine service. Welcoming the follow-up order from the UK-based company, Austal Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bellamy, said the shipbuilder had continued to refine and enhance its Wind Express vessel range following its launch in mid-2010 as part of a strategy to pursue new commercial vessel markets.

IHC Merwede Wins €200m in Orders

HC Merwede won orders for vessels and equipment in its core markets of dredging and offshore to the value of €200m. The latest agreements confirmed by IHC Merwede include: a new pipelaying vessel for Subsea 7; an engineering and components package for the build of a trailing suction hopper dredger with BAE Systems (USA); an environmentally friendly deep-water dredger for Zheijang Dredging (China); and a 5,000-tonne capacity carousel-lay system for Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V.
