Incat Tasmania Exports 111m Ferry to Spain

Incat Tasmania’s newest 111-meter ferry has been handed over to her new Spanish operator  Naviera Armas and departed Hobart late last night (16 July) for Spain.The ship, named Volcan de Tagoro (Incat Hull 091) is impressive in her distinctive red Naviera Armas livery. 091 completed sea trials over the past few days, loaded fuel and supplies yesterday for the delivery voyage to Spain, and has now left Australia.The delivery will be via Auckland, across the Pacific Ocean to Tahiti and the Panama Canal before crossing the Atlantic on her way to Spain.

Incat Tasmania Launches 111 Meter Ferry

Incat Tasmania launched a 111-meter ferry -- Volcan de Tagoro (Incat Hull 091) -- from the shipyard at Hobart’s Prince of Wales Bay on June 15.Naviera Armas SA will operate the vessel on Spanish routes, including the Canary Islands. The company has an extensive fleet of vessels, and Volcan de Tagoro will be the fifth Incat vessel operating in the Armas fleet, however is their first newbuild from Incat Tasmania. Gibdock Converts Ferry to Run on LNG fuel

Gibraltar’s Gibdock shipyard has completed a major conversion project so that the Baleària ferry Napoles can operate using LNG as fuel. The 186m long Napoles, which has capacity for 1,600 passengers and 1,430 lane metres of cargo, is the first of five ships that Baleària plans to convert to dual fuel operations to comply with IMO sulphur cap regulations. MTU Engines for Fred. Olsen’s New Fast Ferries

Two new high-speed ferries to be run by Spanish ferry operator Fred. Olsen, S.A. are each to be powered by four MTU 20-cylinder 8000 M71L engines and by Kamewa waterjets from Rolls-Royce. The ferries will be 117m trimarans, designed by Austal Australia, and are to ply the waters around the Canary Islands along with the world’s largest aluminum fast ferry in operation, the Benchijigua Express. It is also planned to sign a maintenance agreement for both new ferries for a period of up to 8 years and a maximum of 24,000 hours of operation.

P&O Cruises' Ventura Gets a Facelift

The P&O Cruises Grand-class cruise ship Ventura has completed a two-week docking at Damen Shiprepair Brest. Launched in 2008, this was the first visit of the 290-metre, 116,000 DWT vessel to the yard, where she underwent a regular docking together with a range of maintenance works. Major features of the maintenance program included the installation of two exhaust gas scrubbers, for which Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) designed, manufactured and installed a seachest. Meyer Werft Begins LNG Cruise Ship Build for AIDA

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has laid the keel for AIDAnova, set to become the first cruise ship worldwide that will operate both at sea and in port fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG). Australian LNG-fueled RO/RO Enters Service

A brand new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled roll-on-roll-off freight vessel, Searoad Mersey II, has commenced service from its home port Devonport, in northern Tasmania, Australia. Touted by Bass Strait shipping and logistics firm SeaRoad as the “cleanest, greenest freight ship ever to trade in Australian waters”, Searoad Mersey II is the first coastal ship in Australia to use LNG fuel-and-power technology and the first pure dry cargo ship in the world to use a roll-on roll-off LNG supply system.

Wärtsilä, Zamakona Yards Join forces in Canary Island

Wärtsilä is enhancing its service offering by participating in a new maintenance hub in the Canary Islands. The facility, operated by one of Spain's biggest shipbuilding and ship repair groups, Zamakona Yards, will provide Wärtsilä's high quality service expertise to satisfy the growing needs of marine and power plant operators. Wärtsilä will offer maintenance and repair services at a new maintenance hub for marine and power plant operators with special focus on the offshore market in cooperation with CCB Zamakona Offshore S.L.

Rolls-Royce, Astican Open Las Palmas Workshop

Rolls-Royce yesterday opened a new, custom built, 2,100-square-meter service facility at the Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. The center is a partnership between Rolls-Royce and the shipyard. Las Palmas’ position in the Atlantic allows Rolls-Royce and Astican to enhance their support to rig and drillship owners undertaking ongoing exploration, production and development operations in Europe, Africa and the Americas, Rolls-Royce said, adding the center will also service future growth in the offshore supply and service market as well as the fisheries sector.

MAN Extends Helping Hand to Mercy Ships

MAN Diesel & Turbo says it has donated the equivalent of $115,000 dollars in service, spare parts and training to keep the engines of the hospital ship 'Africa Mercy', operated by Mercy Ships, in top condition to continue its charity work in Africa. MAN Diesel & Turbo continues its charitable support of the world’s largest civilian hospital ship which provides medical care in African coastal areas to those who couldn’t otherwise afford it. OW Bunker's West Africa Offshore Fueling Avoids Port Calls

OW Bunker, one of the world’s largest suppliers and traders of marine fuels and lubricants, have launched a physical fuel supply operation from its bunker tankship offshore West Africa, covering Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and offshore  waters down to the Ivory Coast. OW Bunker Canary Islands will supply customers with the full range of fuels and lubricants from its newly launched 8,250dwt double-hulled tanker Wappen von Frankfurt, and the company say that a second vessel is due to be launched before the end of this year.

Deliberately Drifting: Tankship Saves Fuel

The tankship 'Nord Integrity' took advantage of favourable winds & current to drift some 280 miles on passage to the loading port in order to save fuel. The 48,026 dwt tankship saved US$17,000 by shutting down the main engines and drifting for a few days while on passage from a bunkering call in the Canary Islands towards a loading port in Algeria, reports Bloomberg. The voyage complied with safety regulations, and the owners made it clear that none of their ships would follow this practice if loaded with cargo. Norden spent $651 million on fuel in 2012, or 67 percent of its voyage costs.

PrimeServ Las Palmas Opens For Business

PrimeServ Las Palmas held its official opening at the beginning of October 2010 in front of an audience from the Canary Islands, the Spanish mainland, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s power-plant and marine sectors, and which included colleagues from around Europe. PrimeServ Las Palmas has de facto been open for business since the beginning of 2010, and transported guests to its new facilities aboard a catamaran powered by MAN engines to demonstrate how customers can conveniently berth vessels right in front of its premises.
