Caterpillar Marine Systems Doubles Parts Warranty

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems says it has increased the warranty on Cat Brand Parts used in all marine applications from six months to one year. The warranty covers all parts used in Cat marine engines, Cat marine generator sets, Cat branded marine control systems and Cat marine transmissions. The extended coverage applies to all parts sold or utilized in service work on or after June 1, 2012. The suppliers say that there will be no additional cost to customers for this significant extension of warranty protection.

Caterpillar Relaunches Renowned Cat 3406C

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is relaunching one of the most successful marine engine platforms in its history. The Cat 3406C marine propulsion engine will enter production in late 2013, providing customers in lesser regulated countries, including Latin America and Asia, with an economical, dependable solution for their commercial marine vessels. The mechanically governed 3406C propulsion engine will be available in ratings of 272 bkW @ 1800 rpm and 298 bkW @ 1800 rpm. The engine is ideal for small offshore, inland waterways and commercial fishing applications.

Caterpillar MaK Engines: EPA Tier 2 Certified

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems announced the EPA Tier 2 Certification of all MaK engine platforms with cylinder volumes of above thirty liters. Included in the certification are the M 32 C, M 43 C, M 46 DF as well as the recently announced M 34 DF engine platform. The certification of the MaK range provides customers operating in the American market, specifically in the commercial and offshore marine markets, a spectrum of power nodes to meet emissions regulations on U.S. flagged vessels.

Caterpillar Marine Launch Product Support Campaign at Show

At the 2013 International Workboat Show, Caterpillar is launching an unprecedented product support campaign, unveiling not only a new Cat® 3406 Marine Bundled Repair Solution but also Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for all available Bundled Repair Solutions. The new Cat 3406 bundled repair solution, which builds off of the Cat 3412 bundled repair solution launched earlier this year, is a customizable, comprehensive solution for customers looking to keep their vessels on the water longer.

Caterpillar to Launch Two EPS Tier 4 Marine Engines

The first engine platforms to be rolled out as Tier 4 solutions are two legendary performers in the commercial marine industry: the Cat 3516C marine engine as well as the Cat 280 marine engine. The C280 engine will be available as Tier 4 certified in both the 8 and 12 cylinder configurations. The Cat 3516C Tier 4 certified engine as well as the Cat C280-8 Tier 4 certified engine and Cat C280-12 Tier 4 certified engine are now all available for customers to order through the global Cat dealer network.

New Cat® Powered Marine Hybrid System

Developed for all engine platforms with electrical specialists Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA), the system package utilizes AKA’s XeroPoint Hybrid marine propulsion system and provides fuel savings of up to 25% and even emissions reductions. A recent CARB study found a 73% reduction in PM, 50% reduction in NOx & 26% reduction in CO2. Significant improvements are also seen in performance, control and noise levels. Caterpillar Ships First MaK Dual Fuel Engine

The M 46 DF, Caterpillar’s first marine dual fuel engine, will power a Japan newbuild cruise ship ordered by Germany’s AIDA cruises. Caterpillar Unveils the M 32 E, Increased Power Rating

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems announce the development of the MaK M 32 E, a new high performance marine diesel engine platform for the commercial marine industry based on the M 32 C engine series. The M 32 E engine boasts an increased power rating of 550 kW per cylinder @ 720 and 750 rpm and with total output ranging from 3,300 kW for the six cylinder configuration to 4,950 kW for the nine cylinder configuration. Caterpillar Develops Second Dual Fuel Engine

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems announce the development of the MaK M 34 DF, a new marine dual fuel engine platform for the commercial marine industry. The M 34 DF dual fuel engine boasts a power rating of 500 kW per cylinder at 720 and 750 rpm in diesel and gas modes, and will share the same footprint as the highly successful M 32 C engine series. The M 34 DF will be capable of running on natural gas as an alternative to marine diesel oil or large and complex scrubber installations for Emission Control Areas (ECA) operation as of 2015. First engine deliveries are foreseen for October 2014.

Caterpillar Broadens Pleasure Craft Product Line with New Supercharged High Performance Diesel Engine; Cat C8.7 Features Impressive Fuel Economy, Rapid Transient Response. American Commercial Lines (ACL) has selected Cat C280 marine engines for repowering six of their towboats. Bill Foster, ACL vice president Boat Maintenance, commented, "We are making significant investments in our fleet to improve reliability and performance. All six vessels are scheduled to be repowered in 2012. The first vessels being repowered are the MV J. Russel Flowers and the MV Thurston B. Morton.
