Wärtsilä and Silverstream to Collaborate
Technology group Wärtsilä, and Silverstream Technologies announced the signing of a Licence and Co-operation Agreement for future sales and servicing of the Silverstream System. As an authorized sales and service partner, Wärtsilä intends to fully integrate Silverstream’s air lubrication system within its propulsion solutions.By offering the Silverstream System as an integral part of Wärtsilä’s propulsion solution for newbuild vessels, compliance with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) will be further improved.

GE’s Marine Solutions was chosen by ASMAR Shipyards to provide the complete scope of an integrated marine propulsion system for the Chilean Navy’s new Antarctic icebreaking Polar Class vessel. Evinrude E-TEC Engines Now Australian Compliant
BRP announced today its Evinrude E-TEC engines are compliant to new Australian emissions standards. Australian exhaust emissions standards for outdoor power equipment and marine engines were finalized in December, 2017. The standards will be phased in to allow the industry time to transition.As of July 1, 2018, new high polluting outdoor power equipment and marine engines, such as conventional carbureted two-stroke outboard engines, can no longer be imported into Australia. By July 1, 2019 only clean-technology outdoor power equipment andmarine engines can be supplied to the Australian market.
Four Methanol-fueled Vessels Ordered in Korea
Four new vessels powered by methanol fuel will be built in Korea following investment from maritime industry stakeholders Waterfront Shipping Company Ltd. (WFS), Marinvest/Skagerack Invest (Marinvest), IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (IINO), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) and the NYK Group (NYK). The four 49,000 dead weight tonne newbuilds will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for delivery in 2019. They will be powered by MAN B&W ME-LGI two-stroke dual-fuel engines that can run on methanol, fuel oil, marine diesel oil or gas oil.

GHU: Fast ROI for Existing Bunker Port Installations
Genoil Inc, (GNOLF), the publicly traded clean technology engineering company for the petroleum industries, has announced compelling economics for the Genoil Hydroconversion Upgrader (GHU), for installations where there is existing infrastructure. The GHU can be built alongside existing refinery infrastructure in major bunkering hubs rather than incurring the costs to develop and build all new infrastructure. First Methanol-fueled Tanker Launched
Launched at the Hyundai Mipo dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the newly built Lindanger is the world’s first methanol fueled ocean-going vessel. The ship is the first of two dual-fueled 50,000 dwt tankers owned by Norwegian firm Westfal-Larsen that will be chartered to global marine transportation company Waterfront Shipping. With a MAN designed Hyundai–B&W 6G50ME-9.3 ME-LGI dual-fuel, two-stroke engine on board, the Lindanger can run on methanol, fuel oil, marine diesel oil or gasoil.

Electric Boat Powered by Aluminum-air Battery
Alcoa, clean technology company Phinergy and HEIG-VD University, today debuted a zero-emissions electric demo boat powered by an aluminum-air battery at Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Alcoa and Phinergy announced earlier this year that the companies are collaborating on new materials, processes and components to commercialize the aluminum-air battery for various applications, including electric cars, electric boats and stationary energy.
