Mobilgard for Plug-In Hybrid Vessel

ExxonMobil is supplying Mobilgard ADL 40 engine oil for Color Hybrid, Color Line’s latest addition to its fleet of ferries. The vessel is the world’s largest plug-in battery hybrid ship and was recently named ‘ship of the year 2019’ by Nor-Shipping.The vessel, which is already in service between Sandefjord, Norway, and Strömstad, Sweden, is capable of carrying 2,000 passengers and 500 cars. Rolls-Royce Launches Battery System for Ships

Partners Launch Zero Emissions Ferry Project

By combining existing technologies in a new way, it is possible to build ferries that represent a quantum leap for the environment. That is the idea behind a new R&D project involving four major players in the maritime sector: Rolls-Royce, Color Line, Norled and the Norwegian Coastal Administration. The project has now received a NOK 5.9 million grant from the Research Council of Norway’s ENERGIX program. World's Largest Hybrid Ferry gets Rolls-Royce Power

Rolls-Royce announced that it received an order for four B33:45L diesel engines to power the world’s largest hybrid ferry being built for the Norwegian cruise and transport company Color Line. The ferry, designed by Fosen and to be built at Ulstein Verft in Norway, is due for completion by the summer of 2019 and is scheduled to operate on the crossing between Sandefjord in Norway and Strømstad in Sweden. The new Color Line ferry will be a plug-in hybrid combining diesel and electrical power.

World’s Largest Hybrid Vessel Ordered

Norwegian ferry operator Color Line and shipbuilder Ulstein Verft have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the construction of what will reportedly become the largest hybrid vessel in the world, a 160-meter-long passenger ferry. The Fosen-designed ferry will be a plug-in hybrid with batteries able to be recharged via a power cable with electricity from their own shore facilities or recharged on board by the ship's generators. ABB S2S System for Color Line Ferry

ABB, a global provider of power and energy solutions, is to supply a complete Shore to Ship Power (S2S) system to Color Line’s ro-pax ferry, SuperSpeed1. The 34,231 tons gross SuperSpeed1, built by Aker Finnyards at Rauma in Finland, has been in service on the Kristiansand – Hitshals route since 2008 and is the third Color Line vessel to be equipped with ABB’s system, after the Color Magic and Color Fantasy. Wärtsilä Scrubbers for Three More Color Line Ships

Wärtsilä has been contracted to retrofit its Open Loop Scrubber systems on three additional vessels owned by Color Line, Norway's largest cruise and ferry operator. With the latest contract, Wärtsilä's now has 36 shipsets, totalling 75 scrubber units, either already installed or in the pipeline. Each vessel will be fitted with four systems designed to rid the ships' exhaust gases of harmful sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulate emissions. Interferry to Unveil Approach on Alternative Fuels

A ferry operator’s experience of ‘the fastest ship in the world’ will feature among the cutting-edge initiatives being aired at Interferry’s 38th annual conference in Malta from October 5-9. The trade association event gives South American operator Buquebus a first opportunity to showcase the commercial and technical benefits of its revolutionary newbuild Francisco. Delivered in August from Australian builder Incat Tasmania, the catamaran is the world’s first high speed dual fuel ro-ro to use LNG as its primary fuel. Incat made the “fastest ship” claim after sea trials in June.

Wärtsilä Win Color Line Scrubber System Contract

Wärtsilä contracted by Norwegian cruise and ferry operator, Color Line, to retrofit four exhaust gas cleaning systems to the company's 'SuperSpeed 2' Ro-pax ferry. The contract was signed in June and the installation is expected to be carried out during docking of the vessel in spring 2014. The four separate Wärtsilä open loop scrubber systems will ensure the ship's full compliance with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) MARPOL Annex VI regulations, and with EU Directive 2055/33/EC.
