Dryships Announces Signing to Construct UDW Drillships
ATHENS, GREECE – April 29, 2011 - DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) (the “Company” or “DryShips”), a global provider of marine transportation services for drybulk and petroleum cargoes and off-shore contract drilling oil services, announced the signing, by its majority-owned subsidiary Ocean Rig UDW Inc. (“Ocean Rig”), of the previously announced restructuring of its $1.1 billion Secured Term Loan Facility led by Deutsche Bank. Ocean Rig exercised two newbuilding options to construct Ultra Deepwater Drillships at Samsung Heavy Industries.
Samsung Heavy to Build Ocean Rig UDW Drillship
Ocean Rig UDW Inc. sign contract for Samsung Heavy Industries to construct a 7th Generation Ultra Deepwater (UDW) Drillship. This 7th Generation drillship is a sister ship to the three currently under construction at Samsung, and is scheduled to be delivered to the company in January 2015. Ocean Rig Ocean Rig is an international offshore drilling contractor providing oilfield services for offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production drilling, and specializing in the ultra-deepwater and harsh-environment segment of the offshore drilling industry.
Semi-submersible Rig 'Erik Raude' Contracted
Ocean Rig UDW Inc. has received a Letter of Intent to contract one of its semi-submersible drilling rigs, “Eirik Raude”, from an oil major. The Letter of Intent is for a one-well program, with an estimated duration of up to 6 months, for drilling offshore Ireland, with an estimated backlog of approximately $112 million, including mobilization and demobilization. The rig is scheduled to commence this contract in the first quarter of 2013, in direct continuation from its previous contract in West Africa.
Dryships Signs Another Drilling Contract
DryShips Inc. announced today that its fully-owned subsidiary Ocean Rig UDW Inc has signed definitive documentation following the previously announced Letter of Award. The contracts were signed with subsidiaries of Vanco Overseas Energy Limited (“Vanco”) for projects in which Vanco is operator and LUKOIL Overseas is majority co-venturer, for a five well contract for exploration drilling offshore Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire for a period of about one year with one drillship, commencing in the second quarter of 2011. The value of the contracts is approximately $160 million.
Rig Accommodation Below Par for New Danish Requirements
Northern Offshore receives Maersk Oil & Gas notification that rig 'Energy Endeavour' will be released from contract on May 1, 2013. The rig's accommodation unit does not meet new Danish Energy Authority requirements and its replacement is not commercially viable for either party. Gary W. Crowley Christen First Two Ocean-class Tugboats
Crowley Maritime Corporation christen 'Ocean Wave' & 'Ocean Wind' built at Bollinger Shipyards, based in Amelia, La. USA. The new tugboats were designed by Crowley subsidiary Jensen Maritime located in New Orleans. At 146 and 156 feet in length, and with a minimum bollard pull of 150 metric tons, Crowley’s new ocean class tugs will be outfitted for long-range, high-capacity ocean towing, rig moves, platform and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit tows, emergency response and firefighting.
Deepwater Semi-submersible Rig Ordered by Diamond
A Diamond Offshore Drilling subsidiary contracts with Jurong Shipyard, Singapore for a moored semi-submersible rig. Fairmount Sherpa Tows Rig Atwood Condor
Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Sherpa has delivered rig Atwood Condor fast and safely in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The semi submersible rig was towed from Port Louis, Mauritius, over a distance of 8,100 nautical miles with an average speed of 8.5 knots. The Atwood Condor is a 2012 Singapore build dynamically positioned semi submersible drilling unit capable of operating in 3,050 meters of water and drilling depths up to 12,200 meters. The 118 meter long state-of-theart rig has a accommodation capacity for up to 200 persons. The rig is owned by Atwood Oceanics, headquartered in Houston, US.

Rolls-Royce to Supply Rig Equipment for Samsung Heavy
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to supply thrusters and deck machinery for two semi-submersible drilling rigs to be built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea for Stena Drilling. Rolls-Royce reported the value of the contract to be around £22.5 million. Rolls-Royce is a supplier of large thrusters and deck machinery to the offshore drilling market.
