“Cautious Optimism” for Goltens Dubai
The global downturn in offshore energy is well recorded, a downturn which has had impact on various arms of the energy and marine supply chain. While Goltens has felt the downturn like many other companies, it is reporting 'cautious optimism' in the Middle East premised on new international regulation and the need for shipowners to upgrade ships.Almost all the offshore vessels in Dubai are operating, and many have come in from Asia to do the same, but following the offshore crash in 2016, operators are delaying maintenance.

Faster Propeller Repairs in the Middle East
Aiming to provide faster repair service in the Middle East to ship operators whose vessels have sustained propeller damage, Stone Marine Shipcare has signed a Service Agency Agreement with Dubai Drydock World which sees one of the companies’ mobile workshops permanently based there. The workshop will be used, not just at Drydock Worlds’ own facilities, but can be quickly transported to other Middle Eastern shipyards, wherever a ship is in need of repair or maintenance to its propeller.

First LNG Fuelled Tug for Middle East by Wärtsilä
Drydocks World (DDW) based in Dubai, UAE, has contracted Wärtsilä to design and supply the propulsion and other equipment for a new harbour tug that will operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG). This will be the first harbour tug in the Middle East region to operate on gas. The order was signed in November. The 29-meter-long tug is the first of a series of nine such vessels to be built and operated by DDW. The project is part of a green initiative launched by the Dubai government, and is intended to set an example for promoting environmental sustainability throughout the region.
Drydocks World & DMC to build 1st LNG-powered tug

FSRU Toscana Sails Away From Drydocks World
Drydocks World said that Floating Storage Re-gasification Unit (FSRU) Toscana sailed away from Drydocks World – Dubai. The unit, formerly the 138,830-cbm LNG carrier Golar Frost, has been under conversion since June 2009 at Drydocks world Dubai yard for contractor Saipem and owner OLT. The LNG Carrier, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries was converted into a floating LNG receiving terminal of the FSRU type, and will be permanently moored off Livorno, Italy and connected to shore through a gas export pipeline. There are only a few such units in operation around the world.

Rolls-Royce, Drydocks World to Cooperate on LNG Tugs
Rolls-Royce plc has signed a memorandum of understanding with Drydocks World Dubai to provide systems for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs for the Middle East market. The memorandum of understanding was recently signed by Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World, and Neil Gilliver, Rolls-Royce, President – Merchant, in Dubai. Rolls-Royce is a leader in the development of LNG technology for the marine industry. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last year approved for sale in the U.S.

Dubai Maritime City infrastructure development speeds up as 35 percent companies agree to begin immediate plot development. Maritime World, the umbrella body constituting Dubai Maritime City (DMC) and other maritime entities, announce that the development of the Business District of Dubai Maritime City, the global Marine and Maritime Clusters in this region, had received an emphatic boost as 35 percent of developers signed-off and agreed this week to begin immediate development of their plots. Drydocks World Singapore Launches AHTS
Drydocks World launches an Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) built at its Singapore facility in Tuas basin for Swire Pacific Offshore. The ABS-classed vessel has a bollard pull of over 200 tonnes, and is powered by four engines combined with an azimuth thruster and four tunnel thrusters. Equipment includes a Main Towing Winch, CHDs and secondary winches with an Anchor Recovery Frame for meeting Anchor handling requirements. The vessel was designed by ‘Havyard Design AS’ and can accommodate 37 people.
