White Rabbit Superyacht propelled by Schottel

The 84 x 19.1 m superyacht “White Rabbit” built by Australia's Echo Yachts and designed by Sam Sorgiovanni is equipped with azimuth thrusters from Schottel. White Rabbit maneuverability is provided with two Schottel Pump Jets and one Schottel Rim Thruster. Low-noise and low-vibration azimuth thrusters offer high comfort on the largest yacht ever built in Australia.The maneuvering system of the tri-hulled yacht consists of one electric Schottel Rim Thruster type SRT 800 elastically fitted in the bow and delivering an input power of 200 kW.

Wärtsilä Tests Wireless Charging for Hybrid Coastal Ferry

Wärtsilä informs it has tested its automatic wireless induction charging system on a hybrid powered commercial coastal ferry, the first in the world operating with high power wireless charging capability for its batteries. The tests were carried out in Norwegian during the end of August and early September on the 85 meter long MF Folgefonn owned by Norled, one of Norway's largest ferry operators waters. The project, partially funded by Innovation Norway, represents a breakthrough in the evolution of plug-in electrically operated vessels, Wärtsilä said.

Barillec Highlights its VarShaft System in Amsterdam

On the occasion of Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam, Barillec will focus on its VarShaft system, whose first prototype is now available in its showroom in Concarneau. GE Enters the Containership Industry

GE’s Marine Solutions has signed a contract to provide auxiliary electric systems to containership operator Maersk Line’s second generation Triple-E vessels, thus representing GE’s entry into the container shipping industry. The contract will see GE provide Maersk Line with its new Power Take Off/Power Take In (PTO/PTI) technology, which consists of two drives, two induction motors and a power management system. The solution provides excess power on demand while reducing fuel consumption, GE said.

The latest addition to Wärtsilä's portfolio of gas pumps has been introduced. The new Wärtsilä Svanehøj ECA Fuel Pump (EFP) has been developed in close cooperation with designers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel systems to support gas fuelled engines that achieve greater efficiency. The new Wärtsilä pump offers a number of advantages, including having no tank connections below liquid level, no electrical components inside the tank, and hardly any contribution to the generation of boil off gas.

Croatia Shipyard Delivers Powerful Dredger

Uljanik Shipyard delivers the 26,000 dwt trailing suction hopper dredger 'Bartolomeu Dias' to Luxembourg's Jan De Nul S.A. This is the second such dredger constructed at the yard, with a LOA of 147.6 m and breadth of 30 m. The ship and the working equipment aboard Bartolomeu are powered by two main diesel engines, each having a power of 7200 kW, while the depth from which the material can be sucked lies in the 42-50 meter range. The dredger pump is driven by a two-coil electromotor of power 8 MW and controlled by two independent frequency converters.

Siemens Wins Prestigious Maersk 'Triple-E' Order

The Siemens Drive Technologies Division won a contract from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to implement eco-friendly propulsion and power generation system in containerships which will comprehensively reduce transit costs and provide in achieving the best operational CO2 Index in accordance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Apart from administering shaft generator motors and a power generation system, Siemens will also furnish the company with expertise in power management and Waste Heat Recovery Control (WHR).
