Corvus Energy Wins Order for Battery Hybrid Ferries

Scandlines ferries designed with battery hybrid propulsion to operate on the Rostock-Gedser commercial route. Corvus Energy, Siemens AS and Scandlines have announced the award of the energy storage system contract for the M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen battery hybrid ferries currently being built at the Danish shipyard FAYARD. The new vessels M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen will each use a 1,050VDC, 1.5MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 231 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries.

New Energy Storage Solutions for Marine Hybrid Market

XALT Energy’s newest scalable marine power offering for marine power needs, the XPAND Modular Pack Architecture, will be showcased at the 2016 Electric & Hybrid World Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. According to XALT Energy, the system’s design provides workboat operators with an energy storage solution for rapid systems integration in marine power applications. “The XPAND state‐of‐the‐art Lithium‐ion energy storage system is designed to enhance the fuel efficiency and maneuverability of marine vessels,” said John Warner, vice president sales and marketing of XALT Energy.

Scandlines’ Hybrid Ferry Fleet is World’s Largest

Corvus Energy and Scandlines announced today the completion of the commissioning for the Scandlines’ fleet of hybrid ferries: the M/V Deutschland, M/V Schleswig-Holstein and M/V Prins Richard. According to the companies, the vessels represent the largest fleet of hybrid ferries in operation today. Based on the success of Scandline’s first hybrid conversion, the MF Prinsesse Benedikte, the latest three vessels each use a 2.7MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 399 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries integrated with Siemens drive systems.

First 100% Battery Powered Air Supported Vessel Launched

The result of a five-year-long EU project, the world’s fastest Air Supported Vessel (ASV), fully powered by lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS), has been launched at Latitude Yachts in Riga, Latvia. The new first of its kind vessel BB Green operates at a speed of 30 knots (56km/h) and holds up to 70 passengers plus bikes. It will initially be used for demonstration purposes across Europe. The ASV technology reduces water resistance by having the ship operate on an air cushion.

Corvus Gains Support from WINN Initiative

Corvus Energy to Power UK Hybrid Ferry

Corvus Energy Inc. has announced that Wärtsilä, provider of ship machinery, propulsion and maneuvering solutions, has selected Corvus Energy as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a new hybrid ferry being built for UK based Wightlink Ferries. Corvus Energy will supply its Orca Energy ESS solution to compliment a comprehensive range of modern Wärtsilä equipment and systems, which will deliver industry leading environmental efficiency with this new vessel.

PBES Scores DNV GL Type Approval

Designer and manufacturer of high power lithium-ion energy storage PBES (Plan B Energy Storage) said it has received DNV GL Type Approval of the PBES energy storage system for use in commercial marine, offshore oil and gas and renewable energy applications. “PBES celebrates the certification of our systems to this highest standard,” said Brent Perry, PBES Chief Executive Officer. PBES said it expects the type approval to open global marine markets by providing customers with security in knowledge that their vessel will meet class standards.

Orca ESS Retrofit for Norwegian Research Vessel

Corvus Energy’s next generation Orca ESS has been selected by Halvorsen for the retrofit of the fisheries and environmental research vessel MS Johan Hjort. Halvorsen Power System AS has selected Corvus Energy as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a retrofit of marine research vessel, MS Johan Hjort. Corvus will supply its recently released, next generation Orca Energy solution to provide power to the vessel for peak shaving, research operations and crew comfort.

ACEL Selects Corvus Energy Orca ESS

ACEL AS of Norway has ordered an Orca Energy, Energy Storage System (ESS) from Corvus Energy to begin integration testing for uses across multiple maritime applications. Orca Energy is part of the next generation Orca ESS product line from Corvus which is specifically designed for maritime use. The ACEL Group consists of several companies with strong electrical expertise and professional resources in the field of offshore platform service vessels, including new builds, servicing and conversions.

Corvus, Scandlines Ink 10-year Service Deal

Corvus Energy said it has been awarded a 10-year service and maintenance agreement for the entire Scandlines hybrid ferry fleet. The contract includes both traditional service and maintenance of the fleets’ energy storage systems, plus Corvus’ remote condition-based monitoring service, Watchman. The first ferry operator to build and operate large ROPAX (roll-on/off passenger) hybrid ferries that combine traditional diesel power with advanced battery power, Scandlines utilizes Corvus’ lithium-ion based energy storage systems throughout the entire fleet to provide the battery power.

Corvus Energy Supply BMS to New Østensjø Rederi PSV

Corvus Energy supplies Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi with turnkey lithium-ion battery management system (BMS) for newly designed vessel. The Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), designated ST-920, is being developed by Østensjø Rederi together with ship designer Skipsteknisk in Ålesund and building yard Astilleros Gondan in Spain in close collaboration with Siemens as the systems integrator and Corvus Energy as the energy storage system enabler. The new vessel will be used to support rig operations in the North Sea and construction is expected to complete in September 2013.

Corvus to Supply Energy Storage for Hybrid Chemical Tanker

Corvus Energy Inc. has announced  that it has been selected as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a new hybrid chemical tanker being built for Rederiet Stenersen AS of Norway. The chemical tanker will be the first vessel of its kind to utilize an ESS for propulsion. Corvus Energy will supply its next generation Orca Energy ESS solution to integrate with WE Tech Solutions’ propulsion system, which will deliver industry environmental performance for this new vessel.

Seacor Orders Hybrid Power and DP Upgrades

Kongsberg has received an order to deliver unique ‘Full Picture’ technology upgrades for a further three Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) owned by Mantenimiento Express Marítimo SAPI de CV (“MEXMAR”), Seacor  Marine’s joint venture in Mexico. The contract follows the September 2017 contract for the same ground-breaking upgrade package on the Seacor Maya PSV, which was an important step taken by MEXMAR towards meeting the increasing industry demand to reduce the environmental footprint of offshore operations.
