Corvus Energy Wins Order for Battery Hybrid Ferries
Scandlines ferries designed with battery hybrid propulsion to operate on the Rostock-Gedser commercial route. Corvus Energy, Siemens AS and Scandlines have announced the award of the energy storage system contract for the M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen battery hybrid ferries currently being built at the Danish shipyard FAYARD. The new vessels M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen will each use a 1,050VDC, 1.5MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 231 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries.
Corvus to Supply Energy Storage for Hybrid Chemical Tanker
Corvus Energy Inc. has announced that it has been selected as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a new hybrid chemical tanker being built for Rederiet Stenersen AS of Norway. The chemical tanker will be the first vessel of its kind to utilize an ESS for propulsion. Corvus Energy will supply its next generation Orca Energy ESS solution to integrate with WE Tech Solutions’ propulsion system, which will deliver industry environmental performance for this new vessel.
Scandlines’ Hybrid Ferry Fleet is World’s Largest
Corvus Energy and Scandlines announced today the completion of the commissioning for the Scandlines’ fleet of hybrid ferries: the M/V Deutschland, M/V Schleswig-Holstein and M/V Prins Richard. According to the companies, the vessels represent the largest fleet of hybrid ferries in operation today. Based on the success of Scandline’s first hybrid conversion, the MF Prinsesse Benedikte, the latest three vessels each use a 2.7MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 399 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries integrated with Siemens drive systems.
Corvus, Scandlines Ink 10-year Service Deal
Corvus Energy said it has been awarded a 10-year service and maintenance agreement for the entire Scandlines hybrid ferry fleet. The contract includes both traditional service and maintenance of the fleets’ energy storage systems, plus Corvus’ remote condition-based monitoring service, Watchman. The first ferry operator to build and operate large ROPAX (roll-on/off passenger) hybrid ferries that combine traditional diesel power with advanced battery power, Scandlines utilizes Corvus’ lithium-ion based energy storage systems throughout the entire fleet to provide the battery power.

First 100% Battery Powered Air Supported Vessel Launched
The result of a five-year-long EU project, the world’s fastest Air Supported Vessel (ASV), fully powered by lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS), has been launched at Latitude Yachts in Riga, Latvia. The new first of its kind vessel BB Green operates at a speed of 30 knots (56km/h) and holds up to 70 passengers plus bikes. It will initially be used for demonstration purposes across Europe. Energy Storage System Ordered for LNG Battery Hybrid Ferry
Corvus Energy, Siemens AS and Fjord1 have announced the award of the contract for the Fannefjord LNG hybrid ferry. The refit Fannefjord will use a 1,050V, 410kWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 63 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries. The ESS will be integrated with the existing Siemens drive systems and be powered by two LNG generators. The 123m Fannefjord, sister ship to the vessel Moldefjord (who won the 2010 Green Ship of the Year), has a capacity of 390 passengers and 125 cars or 12 road trailers and 55 cars.

Corvus Energy Supply BMS to New Østensjø Rederi PSV
Corvus Energy supplies Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi with turnkey lithium-ion battery management system (BMS) for newly designed vessel. The Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), designated ST-920, is being developed by Østensjø Rederi together with ship designer Skipsteknisk in Ålesund and building yard Astilleros Gondan in Spain in close collaboration with Siemens as the systems integrator and Corvus Energy as the energy storage system enabler. The new vessel will be used to support rig operations in the North Sea and construction is expected to complete in September 2013.

Saft Seanergy Energy Storage Systems Approved by NMA
Saft has obtained approval of its Seanergy marine energy storage system by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) for use in a variety of hybrid and fully electric propulsion applications. Saft is the only manufacturer of marine lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries to use the Li-ion Super-Phosphate (SLFP) chemistry which offers the highest levels of safety, performance and reliability. The approval process was based on simulated thermal runaway tests carried out on the Seanergy systems by an independent laboratory in August 2016.
