Bowman Power's Engine Efficiency Solution for the Marine Sector

A consortium, led by Bowman Power Group Ltd has created a new, marine-capable system designed to increase engine efficiency and reduce emissions.According to Bowman, the timing of this technology couldn't be better, coming just months after the International Maritime Organization (IMO) reached an agreement to cut carbon emissions from the global shipping industry by at least half by 2050.The project was part-funded by Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, and a leading research and innovation hub.

MAN Okays Chevron's Taro Cylinder Lubricants

Following field testing, Chevron Marine Lubricants have been issued with two NOLs (No Objection Letters) from equipment manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions, for the use of three of its Taro cylinder oils with itscylinder oil mixing system, ACOM.“Receiving the NOLS from Man Energy Solutions (formerly MAN Diesel & Turbo), demonstrates the impressive performance of our products in the field. MAN Okays Total Lubmarine's New Products

Global marine lubricant provider Total Lubmarine has received two No Objection Letters (NOL) from equipment manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo – in recognition of the effectiveness of two of its products.The first NOL recognises the performance of cylinder oils TALUSIA HR 140, and approves it for use in MAN engines. TALUSIA HR 140 – which has a higher BN (base number) than most of its market counterparts – offers the best solution for engines subject to severe corrosive. Twin Disc Acquires Veth Propulsion

U.S. based power transmission technology and equipment manufacturer Twin Disc, Inc. announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Netherlands based marine propulsion products supplier Veth Propulsion Holding, B.V. and its wholly-owned subsidiaries.Twin Disc said the purchase price is approximately $58.6 million plus net cash, with potential adjustments based on Veth Propulsion’s working capital as of the closing date, and will be financed through a combination of cash and new debt facilities.

The words ‘Rolls-Royce’ can roll right off your tongue, and when they do, the average person in the maritime space probably thinks first of big, powerful, and environmentally-correct marine engines. That might have rung true just two decades ago, but today, that visual doesn’t give justice to what the firm has evolved to become. Propeller Repairs Increase as Winter Approaches

Hydrex Underwater Technology has registered an increase in the number of vessels experiencing propeller damage. Dave Bleyenberg, Hydrex Production Executive, explained: “While winter months usually result in an increase in propeller repairs, this normally occurs between January and March. In November, a Hydrex team was called out to Taranto, Italy, to inspect a 27,500dwt general cargo ship, whose engineers had reported excessive vibration from its five blade, 5m diameter propeller as the vessel returned from operations. The cause of the vibration was two bent propeller blades.

RSC Bio Solutions exanded its EnviroLogic 800 series of biodegradable greases. The EnviroLogic 800 series are VGP compliant, biodegradable Lithium Complex greases designed to operate in severe outdoor environments and withstand corrosion. RSC Bio Solutions is introducing EnviroLogic 800 and EnviroLogic 801 greases to further compliment the already established EnviroLogic 802, allowing the company to offer solutions for additional applications when specifications call for NLGI grades #0 and #1.

Wartsila India Signs Pact with CSL

Wartsila India, the Indian arm of Finland-based Wartsila Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) for setting up a containerised self-sufficient workshop. As per the MOU, Wartsila plans to locate a containerised self-sufficient workshop within the premises of CSL to cater primarily to propeller blade metallurgical repairs and engine component repairs. Wartsila also plans to support CSL with comprehensive engine services, propulsion services and electrical and automation services based on the requirements, said a press release.

RSC Bio Solutions announced that its EnviroLogic 210EP readily biodegradable gear oil has been approved for use in Thrustmaster gearboxes and thrusters. With this approval, Thrustmaster has extended its existing relationship with RSC Bio Solutions, whose sustainable technologies are approved for use by Thrustmaster in oil and gas, workboat, deep water, marine and wind construction applications. Fincantieri Endorses ExxonMobil EALs

Mobil SHC Aware H 46 and Mobil SHC Aware H 68, part of ExxonMobil Marine Fuels and Lubricants’ range of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL), have received approval from Fincantieri Marine System Division, the marine equipment manufacturer of the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. ExxonMobil said an industry standard ASTM  test showed that its Mobil SHC Aware H 46 and Mobil SHC Aware H 68 qualify as low maintenance oils, providing extended operational life. Rolls-Royce Partners with Nauta S.A. Repair Yard

Rolls-Royce Marine and Nauta S.A. ship repair yard have signed a cooperation agreement in Poland. Under the new partnership, Rolls-Royce Marine will gain exclusive rights to provide services on all Rolls-Royce equipment coming into the shipyard. In return, the cooperation is expected to bring in an increased flow of customers into the shipyard, knowing they can readily access the original equipment manufacturer expertise required for the work, Rolls-Royce said, adding that customers will also benefit from a coordinated approach for their vessel servicing needs.

Divers Replace USS Taylor CPP Hub, Avoid Dry-Docking

The Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) Hub of the 'USS Taylor' (FFG 50) was replaced underwater in Souda Bay, Greece, the warship having earlier suffered significant damage to its propeller blades while underway in the Black Sea, apprises Norfolk Ship Support Activity (NSSA). "NSSA RMC Quality Assurance (QA) Department dispatched Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technicians overseas to perform an NDT examination of the Main Reduction Gear, to assess its capabilities after the sustaining damages," said NSSA Hydraulics and Ship's Controls Branch Head Richard Krewinghaus.
