Finnlines, Alfa Laval Ink Scrubber Performance Deal

Finnish shipping operator Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has placed a service order with Alfa Laval to optimize the performance of its existing Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber systems. The performance agreement was tailored for Finnlines using the Alfa Laval 360° Service Portfolio, a structured selection of defined service offerings. The Alfa Laval performance agreement with Finnlines covers PureSOx systems installed on board seven RoRo vessels: Finnpulp, Finnmill, Finnhawk, Finnkraft, Finncarrier, Finnmaster and Finnmerchant.

Grimaldi Places 10th PureSOx Scrubber Order

Alfa Laval reports its scrubber solution PureSOx has been the subject of many repeat orders. One of the major returning customers is the Grimaldi Group, which has now ordered its 10th installation of Alfa Laval’s exhaust gas cleaning system. The Grimaldi Group is a multinational logistics group specialized in the operation of RoRo vessels, car carriers and ferries. Through the maritime services of Atlantic Container Line, Finnlines and its other companies, the Naples-based group transports passengers, nearly any type of rolling cargo as well as containers and general cargo.

Rolls-Royce Propulsion Systems for New Finnlines Ferries

Rolls-Royce says it has won a contract to install its efficient Promas Lite propulsion system on two vessels for ferry operator Finnlines. Promas Lite is an integrated propeller and rudder system that increases efficiency and is designed specifically for retrofitting to existing ships. These will be the fifth and sixth Finnlines vessels to feature Promas Lite, following a contract for four shipsets earlier this year. Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has worked with Rolls-Royce on a number of re-blading projects in recent years…

Alfa Laval Scrubbers to Equip Finnlines Vessels

The order intake for the Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber system continues to intensify as January 2015 approaches. Four PureSOx systems have now been ordered by Finnlines, a leading provider of RoRo and Ropax services, whose Baltic Sea and North Sea operations will soon fall within an Emission Control Area (ECA). RoRo and Ropax vessels from Finnlines offer services from Finland to Germany, North Sea Ports, Spain and via the Åland Islands to Sweden, as well as from Germany to Russia.

Promas Lite System Contracted on 4 Finnlines Ships

Rolls-Royce has been contracted to install its Promas Lite propulsion system on four Finnlines ships, all to be delivered later this year. Promas Lite is an integrated propeller and rudder system designed to increase efficiency, specifically for retrofitting to existing ships. Finnlines is part of the Grimaldi Group, which has over three years of experience with Rolls-Royce on a series of projects to re-blade propellers to improve efficiency. The efficiency gains and fuel saving benefits created by these projects has led to this latest contract to equip four Finnlines vessels.

Wärtsilä scrubber systems are selected for six modern Ro-Ro vessels of Finnlines.

Wärtsilä Scrubbers for 6 Finnlines Vessels

With new, more stringent sulphur oxide (SOx) emission regulations due to take effect January 2015, Finnlines has ordered Wärtsilä Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems for six of its Baltic and North Sea fleet of vessels, Wärtsilä said. By selecting the scrubber systems, Wärtsilä said the vessels will be able to operate in compliance with the new environmental regulations while continuing to operate on heavy fuel oil. The systems will also operate in compliance with the water discharge criteria set by regulators.

Finnlines Order Wärtsilä Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems

Finnlines has chosen Wärtsilä systems to reduce its Baltic Sea environmental impact with the order of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) or 'scrubbers' for six of it Baltic and North Sea fleet of vessels, informs the manufacturer. The Wärtsilä Open Loop Scrubber Systems that have been selected for this application utilise seawater to remove the SOx from the vessel's exhaust. Chemicals are not required since the natural alkalinity of seawater neutralises the acid created by the reaction of the SOx with water.

Finnlines Charters Out RoPax Ship

Finnlines cuts excess capacity by 5-year bareboat charter of 'MS Europalink' to mother-group Grimaldi. The RoPax vessel MS Europalink will sail under Italian flag in the Mediterranean Sea after carrying out some technical improvements which will be financed by Grimaldi Group. She was built at the Castellammare di Stabia shipyard, and was delivered in March 2007 to be used on Finnlines Nordö-Link service between Malmö and Travemünde. The Europalink is presently registered in Malmö, Sweden.
