Volvo Penta Supplies PPE to Healthcare Workers

Volvo Penta  is taking action in response to the prevalent need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). At two of its North American facilities, the company is producing and distributing this vital protective gear to healthcare workers in the local communities and beyond. The efforts are part of an ongoing initiative from Volvo Group North America which plans to supply thousands of PPE units to healthcare operations across the country.The Volvo Penta engineering team at the company’s U.S. headquarters office in Chesapeake, Va., has led development of medical face shields.

NOx Control: Should Certain Vessels Get a Break?

When it comes to the EPA’s recent proposed delay to implementation of Tier 4 marine diesel engines ‘in certain high-speed commercial vessels,’ where you stand probably depends on where you sit.On September 6, the U.S. Environmental Protection agency (EPA) proposed to delay implementation of Tier 4 marine diesel engines “in certain high-speed commercial vessels.” Specifically; EPA mentions three kinds of vessels: lobster boats, pilot boats and a third, more open-ended reference to “other high-speed vessels,” possibly including hovercraft.

NorthStar Midstream Forms LNG Marine Transport Firm

NorthStar Midstream, a portfolio company of funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., has announced the formation of Polaris New Energy (“PNE”), a marine transportation company focused on the transportation and distribution of liquefied natural gas (LNG) along the coastal and inland waterways of the United States.NorthStar has executed an agreement with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding to build a 5,400 cubic meter (CBM), with the ability to potentially construct two sister barges, for coastwise transportation of LNG.

Crowley Christens LNG ConRo El Coquí

Crowley Maritime Corp. on Saturday christened its Commitment Class combination container/roll on-roll off (ConRo) ship El Coquí, which is among the first of its kind to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).The Jones Act compliant vessel is the first of two built as part of Crowley’s Commitment Class project and a key new component in the company’s supply chain transformation in the U.S. mainland-Puerto Rico trade. Canadian Electric Boat Company, Torqeedo Power New Rental Fleet

Canadian Electric Boat Company and Torqeedo has announced that Canada’s electric boat rental fleet will expand by 27 vessels to serve the new Route de Champlain. Canadian Electric Boat Company (CEBC) will build the vessels powered by emission-free Torqeedo motors.The Route de Champlain is a designated tourist route which allows visitors a new way to discover the beauty of Canada’s waterways. LNG is the Bridge to ‘Zero Emissions’ Shipping

The advent of industry wide tightening of allowable sulfur emissions is getting nearer. Suddenly, with the deadline now little more than one year away, the countdown clock will very soon be ticking much louder. USCGC Nathan Bruckenthal Delivered

The U.S. Coast Guard took delivery on March 29, 2018 of the USCGC Nathan Bruckenthal, built by Bollinger Shipyards and delivered in Key West, Florida. The 154 ft. patrol craft USCGC Nathan Bruckenthal is the 28th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the FRC, Bollinger used a proven, in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708. It has a flank speed of 28 knots, state-of-the-art command, control, communications and computer technology, and a stern launch system for the vessel’s 26 foot cutter boat.
