Keel Laid for Foss Tier IV Tugboat

NBBB to Build Four Foss Tractor Tugs
Foss Maritime of Seattle has entered into contract with Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) of Freeland, Wash. for the construction of four new 90-ton bollard pull tractor tugs, with an option for six additional tugs to follow. The contract marks the first between Foss Maritime and Nichols Brothers Boat Builders.Foss has selected a design by Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle. The 100’ x 40’ Z-Drive tractor tugs will be built to United States Coast Guard Subchapter “M” regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

Voith will provide Voith Schneider Propellers and turbo couplings for two fireboats designed by Robert Allan Ltd. for the Port of Long Beach, U.S. With a water pumping capacity of more than 40,000 gallons per minute they will be among the world's most powerful fireboats. With a total of 10 monitors, each of the two identical fireboats is able to throw more than 40,000 gallons of water per minute. The water jets reach a height of up to 236 feet and a distance of up to 580 feet.

After 6 months of charter Marigny Tug LLC of St. Augustine, Florida has closed on the purchase of the U.S. flag tugboat “Leslie Foss”. Prior to the sale, the twin-screw, sheer bow, ocean tug “Leslie Foss” (ex-Caribe Pioneer) had been on charter from Foss Maritime of Seattle, Washington. This is the second tug sale that Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington has brokered to the Buyer. The new owners are in the process of renaming the tug “Simone”, after one of the principal’s oldest daughters.
