AIDA Cruises to Pilot Trial of Fuel Cell System

Carnival Corporation announced its Germany-based brand, AIDA Cruises, has partnered with leaders from the maritime and engineering sectors to pilot the world’s first fuel cell system designed to power large passenger vessels. "There are going to be some projects, many of which in southeast Asia, whereby refiners will be looking to take bottom of the barrel, residue products, and put them through a gasification process to produce hydrogen which can then be used to desulfurize the sulfur particulates. IMO2020: Asian Hydrogen Demand to Rise

Asia's hydrogen gas demand will rise as the region's oil refineries use the gas to produce low-sulfur fuel to meet new environmental regulations, the head of the world's largest industrial gas producer said."The demand for hydrogen has grown steadily over the years at a much faster rate than GDP growth," Linde Plc's Chief Executive Officer Steve Angel told Reuters ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for Linde's $1.4-billion gas project on Singapore's Jurong Island."The twin drivers…

DNV to Class World's First LNG FPSO

DNV has been contracted to class the Petronas LNG FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, Offtake) vessel to be built by Korea's DSME. The unit will be built by DSME in Korea and is destined for the Kanowit field offshore Sarawak, Malaysia. It is expected to be the world’s first floating liquefaction unit in operation when completed in 2015. The Petronas FLNG will be 300m long and 60m wide and will be moored 180km from shore. It is designed to produce 1.2 million tonnes a year (mtpa) of LNG, boosting Malaysia’s total LNG production capacity from 25.7 mpta to 26.9 mpta.

Corvus Batteries For New Hybrid Tugboats

New hybrid tugs for Australian Gorgon Gas Field Project will use Canada-based Corvus batteries to reduce operational and environmental costs. More than two megawatts of batteries designed and manufactured by Corvus Energy will be at the heart of four new 542 kWh hybrid tugboats now being built for the Gorgon Project. One of the world's largest natural gas projects, Gorgon is currently under construction 130 km off the west coast of Australia. Once complete, it will become the largest natural resource project in Australia’s history.

Offshore Atlantic Contract Completed by Ocean Installer

Norway's Ocean Installer company employed its CSV 'Normand Clipper' to complete deep-water contract in N. Atlantic. The contract was for part of the development of the Corrib gas field and it required the survey of a 20-inch, 83km long offshore pipeline and the relocation of about 250 boulders, clearing a 12-metre wide corridor in an umbilical lay route. The work commenced in early August and was successfully completed using the highly efficient construction support vessel (CSV) Normand Clipper. The Corrib field is located in the Atlantic on the west coast of Ireland in blocks 18/20 and 18/25.

Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey Launches 110-ft RV

First FPSO Approved for Gulf of Mexico

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today provided the final approval necessary for Petrobras America, Inc. to begin oil and natural gas production at its Chinook-Cascade project using a Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) facility. This will be the first time this technology is used in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. BOEMRE approved the project’s Production Safety System permit and Supplemental Deepwater Operating Plan (DWOP), to ensure that stringent safety regulations were met.

MAN Dual-Fuel Engines Power Castillo de Santisteban

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, the South Korean shipbuilder, recently delivered the Castillo de Santisteban to Empresa Naviera Elcano, the globally active Spanish shipping group. Five MAN dual-fuel 8L51/60DF engines will power the 984-ft long LNG carrier with each delivering 8,000 kW at 514 rpm. The newbuilding has been assigned by her charterer, Spanish energy company Repsol – Gas Natural LNG (Stream), to the Peruvian Camisea/Pampa Melchorita gas project, the first natural-gas liquefaction plant in South America. The carrier has a carrying capacity of 173,600 m3 LNG.
