New Hybrid Electric Patrol Boat for Estonia

Wärtsilä,Tallink Ink Megastar Maintenance Deal

Wärtsilä has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with Estonia based AS Tallink Grupp for its new RoPax ferry M/S Megastar on the Tallinn - Helsinki route across the Gulf of Finland. Megastar, due to start operation on January 29, 2017, is powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines which operate primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG), to meet the requirements of environmental legislation. Under the agreement Wärtsilä said it will optimize the vessel's performance, enhance its availability and reliability, and improve financial predictability for the customer.

Nuclear-powered Icebreaker to Bow Out

Russian icebreaker 'Rossiya' leaves Murmansk for the Gulf of Finland on probably her final voyage. Rossiya has sailed on the Northern Sea Route for nearly 30 years. It is still uncertain when she will be laid up and what will happen to the vessel afterwards. Rossiya was taken into service in 1985, as the world’s fourth nuclear-powered icebreaker. Estonian Port Buys Icebreaker

Port of Tallinn signs the purchasing agreement for icebreaker 'MSV Botnica'. The 50 million euro agreement is with the Finnish shipping company Arctia for the outright purchase of the icebreaking vessel. MSV Botnica is a multipurpose icebreaker built in 1998 by Aker Finnyards in Rauma, Finland. Her ice class is ICE-10, length (LOA) is 97.3 and beam 24.3 metres. The maximum speed of MSV Botnica is 16.5 knots in open water; she can maintain a speed of 8 knots in ice up to 80cm thickness. The maximum ice thickness in which the ship is capable of maintaining constant speed is 1.2 meters.

Russian Icebreaker Keel Laid Down

A ceremony to mark the keel laying of the project 21900M icebreaker, to be classified by RS, was held at the ОАО Vyborg Shipyard.
