DEUTZ Approves Engines for the Use of Alternative Fuels

DEUTZ has approved the latest generation of its entire TCD engine range for operation with alternative fuels. This will make a further significant reduction to the carbon footprint of combustion engines and even raises the prospect of running such engines on a carbon-neutral basis. For DEUTZ, this represents the next logical step in its efforts to develop sustainable and efficient drive systems. In combination with the electrification of its engine portfolio under the E-DEUTZ strategy, DEUTZ aims for the market leadership in the field of innovative drivetrains.

Caterpillar to Equip 4 AHTS for Grupo CBO

Caterpillar Marine informed that its Cat® power and propulsion solutions have been selected to power four AHTS vessels for Grupo CBO, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each AHTS vessel will be equipped with 4 x 6 M 32 C propulsion engines rated at 3000 bkW and Cat Propulsion controllable pitch propellers. Additionally, Cat will again power the third PSV in a series for Grupo CBO with 4 x 3512C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) generator sets rated at 1700 ekW as well as 1x C18 for harbor/emergency power.

MAN Extends High Speed Power Range

MAN announced it will present a newly developed 12-cylinder V-engine for use in working vessels at the SMM 2014 trade fair in Hamburg, Germany. The German engine manufacturer will thereby extend the power range of its high-speed marine engines for heavy-duty operation up to 735 kW (1,000 hp). Cat Power Solution for Teekay Offshore

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion offerings have been selected to provide complete propulsion solutions for four ocean-going towing vessels designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions. Each vessel will have four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines, rated at 4,500 bkW at 600 rpm. Also onboard each vessel will be three Cat C32 auxiliary generator sets rated at 940 ekW at 1,800 rpm as well as one Cat C9 generator set to provide emergency power. All four vessels will be equipped with two AEM shaft generators rated at 3,150 ekW at 1,200 rpm.

Volvo Penta D13 Certified for EPA Tier 3

Volvo Penta D13 has now further been developed to meet EPA Tier 3 – the new marine environmental emission standard. The new version of D13 offers improved environmental properties with basically unchanged low-fuel consumption. The D13 is a diesel engine that has been developed within the Volvo Group. MAN L27/38 for Heavy-Duty Offshore Propulsion

Dubai-based Grandweld Shipyards has been appointed to build two Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels for undisclosed offshore operators. The AHTS newbuildings, will each be powered by two 8 cylinder MAN L27/38 main engines delivering a total of 2 x 2,720 kW in a standard twin screw propulsion layout for the drive of two ducted cp propellers. The calculated bollard pull is 90 ton. The engines for the 1st and 2nd vessel will be shipped from Denmark 2012 in the weeks 18 and 22 respectively.
