Large Containerhip Order for MAN ES
Eastern Pacific Shipping exercised an option connected with an order for 5 × 15,000-TEU containerships placed in November 2017, and requested another six vessels. All 11 engines involved in the order will be powered by MAN B&W-branded two-stroke engines.The first five engines will be conventional MAN B&W 11G90ME-C units equipped with scrubbers that are due for delivery between 2019-2020. The additional six units will be built as MAN B&W 11G90ME-GI dual-fuel configurations operating on LNG with delivery dates scheduled between 2020-2022.
First LNG-fueled Aframax Tankers Ordered
Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipbuilding affiliate Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) said it recently won a $240 million order to build four 114,000 DWT Ice-Class IA aframax tankers from Sovcomflot, the Russia’s state-owned shipping company. The vessels are said to be the world’s first LNG-fueled aframax tankers, and will measure 250 meters in length, 44 meters in width and 21 meters in height. They are scheduled to be delivered from the third quarter of 2018 and to be chartered to Shell.
UASC Names Ultra-large LNG-ready Containership
United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) named container vessel M.V. Barzan at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), Mokpo South Korea today. The ship, the largest in UASC’s fleet to date, is part of the industry’s first LNG-ready ultra-large container vessel fleet. With a loading capacity of 18,800 TEU, the DNV GL classed vessel M.V. Barzan is first in a new class of ultra-large container vessels that aim to set new standards for fuel and energy efficiency, due to optimized vessel design and an array of propulsion and equipment efficiency technologies.
UASC Umm Qasr Named ‘Green Ship of the Year’
The 9,000 TEU containership UASC Umm Qasr was designated “Green Ship of the Year” by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. Built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), a shipbuilding affiliate of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the containership, which measures 300 m in length, 24.8 m in height and 48.2 m in width, was delivered to Singapore-based Asiatic Lloyd on July 31, 2014 and is currently chartered to Dubai-based United Arab Shipping Company (UASC). WWL Launches Post Panamax Vessel
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics launched the first of its new generation of Post Panamax HERO (High Efficiency RoRo) PCTC vessels, M/V Thermopylae. The Thermopylae was built at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo, South Korea, and her maiden voyage will be from Asia to Europe, starting in the port of Hitachinaka, Japan and finishing in Bremerhaven, Germany. The vessel is the first of eight HERO post panamax vessels that will commence service for WWL from 2015-2017.
World’s First LNG-Ready Ultra Large Container Ship Named
The race is on in global maritime circles to be the “world’s first” in every aspect of environmental friendliness, particularly in regards to the incorporation of LNG as fuel onboard commercial ships. There was yet another “world first” today in South Korea at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan when United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) named the first ever LNG-ready ultra large container vessel MV Sajir, the first vessel in UASC’s current 17-ship “eco-efficient” newbuilding program, comprising 17 of the world’s most eco-efficient vessels.
World First: Hyundai Samho Launches LNG Carrier Built On-ground
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), a shipbuilding affiliate of Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s biggest shipbuilder, successfully launched a 162,000 m3 LNG carrier built using the on-ground shipbuilding method for the first time in the world, the shipyard claims. The vessel, designed for delivering chilled natural gas, was ordered by Golar of Norway in February, 2012. It, measures 289 x 45.6 m with a 26 m depth, and is scheduled to be handed over to the owner by late July 2014 after outfitting and painting work.
Korean Shipyard Delivers Container Ship ‘Hanjin Argentina’
The 3600 TEU container ship, built under the supervision of Navgathi Marine by Hyundai Sambo delivered to Pacific International Lines. Hanjin Argentina is the third of a series of four such vessels ordered by Pacific International Lines of Singapore from the S. Korea shipbuilders. Navgathi Marine is providing the new building supervision services to eight PIL vessels under construction at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea and a site team of Navgathi's is there to manage these projects.
Korean Shipyard Wins LNG Carrier Contracts
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) & its affiliated shipyard obtain orders totalling US$1.05 billion to build five liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. One of the LNG carriers of 155,000-cubic-metre capacity and worth US$210 million is for Brunei Gas, reports the Oman Daily Observer. HHI's affiliated shipyard, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, also won a contract for four 174,000-cubic-metre LNG carriers valued at $840 million from Greece’s Maran Gas. The contract included an option exercisable by the owner for two additional same-class LNG carriers.
Becker Mewis Duct: The Largest Ever Built
Becker delivered an eight-meter-diameter version of its prime energy saver for VLCC Becker Marine Systems has delivered the largest Becker Mewis Duct ever made with a diameter of 8.10 m for the construction of Very Large Crude Oil Carriers (VLCC) at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for Samco Shipholding, Singapore. Initial sea trials of the new VLCC with a length of 319.0 m have proven once more the excellent rate of power savings provided by the Becker Mewis Duct. Fuel savings of about 5% were measured, lowering operating costs for the lifetime of the ship.
Golar LNG Orders Two Ships for $400m
Golar LNG Limited announced details of an expansion to its fleet, saying that it has entered into two newbuilding contracts for 162,000 cu. m. new buildings with fixed priced options for a further two with the Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. One vessel will deliver during the third quarter of 2014 and the other will deliver during the fourth quarter of 2014. The total cost of the two vessels is slightly above $400 million. As with Golar's existing newbuilding orders, the vessels will be delivered with tri-fuel diesel electric engines.
