Wartsila India Signs Pact with CSL
Wartsila India, the Indian arm of Finland-based Wartsila Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) for setting up a containerised self-sufficient workshop. As per the MOU, Wartsila plans to locate a containerised self-sufficient workshop within the premises of CSL to cater primarily to propeller blade metallurgical repairs and engine component repairs. Wartsila also plans to support CSL with comprehensive engine services, propulsion services and electrical and automation services based on the requirements, said a press release.
ABB Power and Automation for New Indian Ferries
ABB said it has signed a contract with India’s largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, to deliver a first-ever integrated power and automation package to an Indian shipowner.ABB’s contract with Cochin Shipyard covers two new 1,200-passenger ferries, to be delivered to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration in 2020. Volvo Penta India Wins Large Order
Volvo Penta India won an order for 40 D12MH-350 engines from Sesa Goa for powering their iron ore barges which will ply in Mandovi & Zuari Rivers in Goa, on west coast of India. Volvo Penta is the first imported engine manufacturer in India to offer IRS (India Register of Shipping) approved engines. Sesa Goa is India’s largest producer and exporter of iron ore in the private sector. As a first phase of their fleet expansion plan Sesa Goa will induct 20 barges powered by Volvo Penta 2 x D12MH-350 engines. The IRS inspected engines will be delivered from October 2010 to March 2011.

MTU Expands in India with Engine Test Cell Facility
The Tognum Group company MTU India opened a new engine test cell facility at its MTU India Service Center in Tathawade, Pune (India). The test cell’s dynamometer system is capable of testing all MTU engines up to Series 4000 engines in the range from 300 to 4,300kW, as per MTU test protocol, and for all applications. In February 2010, MTU India opened its new head office for sales and service operations in Pune. The addition of the new engine test cell facility to the MTU India Service Centre brings a new phase in MTU India’s ability to meet its Indian customers’ needs in the region.

Submarines – Russia Offers India Air-independent Propulsion Systems
Russia has offered to help India build air-independent (closed cycle) propulsion systems for installation in Amur 1650 class submarines and also to equip future possible joint Indian-Russian built vessels, according to Viktor Komardin, the deputy head of Rosoboronexport's delegation at the recent Defexpo Indian defense show. The Amur 1650 is one of several contenders, including the Scorpene (France), Type 214 (Germany) and S-80 (Spain) in a tender for the Indian Navy for six subamrines with a total value of $11.8 billion.
GE Powers India’s First Aircraft Carrier
GE Marine, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, announced that four GE LM2500 gas turbines will soon power the Indian Navy’s INS Vikrant, providing 80 megawatts for the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. Similar to the INS Vikrant itself, the ship’s propulsion plant (four LM2500 gas turbine modules) were manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.’s (HAL) Industrial & Marine Gas Turbine (IMGT) Division. Through its license with GE, HAL assembled, inspected and tested the LM2500 gas turbines and module enclosures for INS Vikrant.
Small-size Diesels in India – MHI Increases Stake in JV
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has increased its stake in MHI-VST Diesel Engines Pvt. Ltd. (MVDE), a small-size diesel engine manufacturing and marketing company jointly established with V.S.T. Tillers Tractors Ltd. (VTTL), a power tiller and tractor manufacturer in India. In response to growing recognition of the MHI brand in the Indian market, MHI, by increasing its capital stake in MVDE, will ensure that the JV has sufficient financial strength both to accommodate large-scale business transactions and to further expand its product lineup.
India Plans First LNG Facility in Haldia
The Haldia Dock Complex under Kolkata Port Trust has recently earmarked about 10 acres of land in the vicinity of Haldia Oil Jetty No. 1 for a period of 30 years for setting up of LNG storage facilities, with permission to lay pipelines and install unloading arms through tender cum auction. The project will be undertaken on land lease model by granting lease of land by middle of December, 2016. LNG facilities are expected to be developed within 24 months from date of allotment of land.
Rolls-Royce to Design & Power Buoy Tender for India
Rolls-Royce has secured an £8-million contract to design and power a highly specialised buoy tender vessel for India. The vessel will be built at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd. in India, and is due for delivery in 2015, to operate in remote waters off the east coast of India and around the Andaman & Nicobar Islands maintaining and replacing navigational aids and buoys. The buoy tender vessel is a Rolls-Royce UT 755 S, which is a development of the well proven UT 755 series, and designed to operate safely in the most challenging conditions.

The orders are for the new generation ECO CRP propulsors that are designed to provide the finest efficiency and maneuverability at even the highest speeds. The combined value of these orders is approximately 10 million Euros.
