GE to Supply Equipment for Indian Navy’s Frigate

GE Marine will provide gas turbine auxiliary equipment for the LM2500 engines that will power the Indian Navy’s new P17A frigates. This contract is with India-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), GE reported today at the Aero India trade exhibition.Under the contract, GE will provide gas turbine auxiliary equipment for seven ships to support the 14 LM2500 engines previously supplied under a separate contract.

Rolls-Royce and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) will cooperate in the local manufacturing of MTU Series 8000 engines in India. Rolls-Royce, GSL to assemble MTU engines

Rolls-Royce said it has reached a deal with Indian naval shipbuilder Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to cooperate in the local manufacturing of technologically-advanced MTU Series 8000 engines. GE Gas Turbines to Power Indian Stealth Frigate

GE’s Marine Solutions announced that its LM2500 marine gas turbines will power the Indian Navy’s P17A stealth frigate. The LM2500 gas turbines will be provided by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine division, Bangalore, India under license from GE. Indian Navy Dredger Completes Successful First Year

In mid-April of 2016, the Indian Navy’s grab hopper dredger, Dredger-1 was preparing to depart its birth shipyard following a comprehensive one-year warrantee review. Tebma Shipyards Ltd., Senior Vice President M. Balasubramaniam explained that the 44.15 by 12.2-meter vessel was designed to meet precise deepening requirements around docks and port installations and in riverine or other places where deepening of specific areas is required. The vessel has a 320-HP Cummins-855-powered forward-mounted crane supplied by Titagarth Wagons.

GE Powers India’s First Aircraft Carrier

GE Marine, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, announced that four GE LM2500 gas turbines will soon power the Indian Navy’s INS Vikrant, providing 80 megawatts for the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. Similar to the INS Vikrant itself, the ship’s propulsion plant (four LM2500 gas turbine modules) were manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.’s (HAL) Industrial & Marine Gas Turbine (IMGT) Division. Through its license with GE, HAL assembled, inspected and tested the LM2500 gas turbines and module enclosures for INS Vikrant.

Goa Shipyard Hands Over India Naval OSPV

Russian Shipyard Delivers Indian Navy Warship

The second of three stealth frigates, the 'Tarkash', is handed over to the Indian Navy by the Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad. Russia and India signed a $1.6 billion contract on construction of three modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) guided missile frigates for India in 2006. The first frigate, INS Teg, joined the Indian Navy on April 27. The last in the series of three frigates, Trikand, currently undergoes dock trials and after it completes sea trials in the Baltic Sea will join the Indian Navy in the summer of 2013.

Russian Shipyard to Deliver Warship to Indian Navy

Frigate 'INS Tarkash' under construction at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad is due to be handed over to the Indian Navy next month. INS Tarkash is the second Talwar-class ship being built for Indian Navy under a contract signed in 2006. Frigates of this class are designed for anti-submarine, surface ship warfare, as well as air defence. Length of the ship is 125 meters; beam is 15 meters; displacement is about 4,000 tons; full speed is 30 knots; cruising range at 14 knots is 5,000 nautical miles; crew strength is over 200 men including 20 officers.

Indian Navy Commissions Stealth Frigate

'INS Sahyadri', the third stealth frigate of the Shivalik Class, commissioned at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard. The warship, named after the mountain range Sahyadri, can generate speeds of 30 knots and is equipped with an array of surface, sub-surface and air defence weapons, including long range anti ship missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, with two multi role helicopters embarked on the vessel. India's Defence Minister AK Antony said the event was a big step towards “self reliance” in building warships. “We have been gradually shifting from a buyers’ Navy to a builder’s Navy,” he added.

Russian-builit Warship Handed Over to Indian Navy

Official handover ceremony of the first  of three Project 11356 frigates was held recently at Yantar Shipyard (affiliate of United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) in Kaliningrad. The up-to-date ship built for Indian Navy under name of INS Teg was developed by Severnoye Design Bureau.According to the contract, Yantar Shipyard are to build three frigates of this project for Indian Navy. Experts say Project 11356 is one of the most effective in its class. JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation is Russia's largest shipbuilding company.

Submarines – Russia Offers India Air-independent Propulsion Systems

Russia has offered to help India build air-independent (closed cycle) propulsion systems for installation in Amur 1650 class submarines and also to equip future possible joint Indian-Russian built vessels, according to  Viktor Komardin, the deputy head of Rosoboronexport's delegation at the recent Defexpo Indian defense show. The Amur 1650 is one of several contenders, including the Scorpene (France), Type 214 (Germany) and S-80 (Spain) in a tender for the Indian Navy for six subamrines with a total value of $11.8 billion.

Fincantieri Launches Indian Navy Ship

Fincantieri’s shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genova) launched the second of two fleet tankers ordered by the Indian Navy, with delivery scheduled by the end of the next year. Present at the ceremony were Debabrata Saha, ambassador for the Republic of India in Italy and Alberto Maestrini, head of Fincantieri Naval Vessels Business Unit. First announced at Euronaval in 2008, the order is the first surface vessel India has ever made to a European company and followed a selection procedure with strong international competitors, especially from Russia and Korea.

Caterpillar Powers Indian Coast Guard Patrol Boats

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems was recently selected to supply the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) with 72x Cat 3516C marine propulsion engines (2525 bkW @ 1800 RPM, ‘D’ Rating) and 72x C4.4 auxiliary generator sets (86 eKW @ 1500 RPM) to power 36 Interceptor Boats, which will be built by Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), Mumbai. The patrol boats will be constructed with an aluminum alloy hull and feature water jet propulsion. “Globally the demand for power systems applications in patrol boats is on the rise.

First LM2500-Powered Ship for Indian Navy

GE Marine reports that the Indian Navy commissioned the INS Shivalik stealth frigate on April 29, 2010, at the Indian Navy’s shipyard in Mumbai. This first-in-class frigate, built by Mazagon Dock Ltd. (MDL), is powered by two GE LM2500 aeroderivative marine gas turbines with two diesels in a combined diesel or gas turbine (CODOG) configuration. This project marks the first LM2500-powered ship to enter service with the Indian Navy. The 4,600-ton INS Shivalik measures 469 ft in length with a beam of 55.7 ft.
