MAN Wins Order for Battery-Hybrid Dual-Fuel System

The Damen Gorinchem Holland shipyard has ordered a hybrid-propulsion solution from MAN Energy Solutions in connection with the building of 2 × dual-fuel/hybrid RoRo ferries for Canadian outfit, Seaspan Ferries Corporation. The order covers the provision of MAN 35/44DF dual-fuel engines, fuel gas-supply systems and the main electric systems, including batteries.MAN Energy Solutions will provide the solutions in association with Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA), in which it has a 40% stake.

MAN Powers LNG-powered Ferry Newbuild

The Jinling Shipyard in China has ordered 4 × MAN 51/60DF engines in connection with the building of 1 + 1 × 230-meter-long RoPax vessels for TT-Line, the German ferry operator. GE Powers Canada’s New Combat Ships

GE Aviation’s marine gas turbines are the ideal solution for the Royal Canadian Navy’s next generation surface combatant program, GE Marine said Thursday at the CANSEC 2018 trade exhibition.“GE’s LM2500 family of engines are used by the Royal Canadian Navy and 34 other navies worldwide, setting the benchmark for reliability. The global fleet of GE gas turbines has logged over 15 million operating hours in the marine environment and another 90 million in industrial applications,” said Brien Bolsinger, GE’s Vice President, Marine Operations, Cincinnati, Ohio.

GE Gas Turbines to Power US Navy's DDG Destroyers

GE’s Marine Solutions has announced that its LM2500 marine gas turbines have been selected to power the United States Navy’s new DDG 126 and 127 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. These new destroyers are being built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine. “Each of these sophisticated new surface combatants relies on four powerful GE LM2500 marine gas turbines in a combined gas and gas turbine -- or COGAG -- propulsion arrangement,” said GE’s Brien Bolsinger, Vice President, Marine Operations. “We are honored that this reliable gas turbine assists with our country’s national security.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Planning for New North American HQ

The business park at Twinwood, a new west Houston destination for companies dedicated to research and development, distribution and light manufacturing, has finalized its first agreement to bring MAN Diesel & Turbo’s new North America headquarters to the 650-acre property. Located just south of I-10 between Woods Road and FM 1489, the business park at Twinwood is part of a proposed, 14,000-acre master-planned community of low, medium and high-density residential along with retail, hospitality, higher education and office. The property is owned by Houston businessman Putera Sampoerna.

GE Ships LM2500 Marine Gas Turbine for US Navy

GE's Marine Solutions division said it has shipped a LM2500 marine gas turbine propulsion module that will help power the U.S. Navy's 75th DDG Arleigh Burke-class destroyer Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125). Shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division will construct this new destroyer with U.S. Navy Flight III upgrades incorporated. Volvo Penta Grooms Future of Technical Talent

When Aleric Sanders returns to Old Dominion University this month, the rising senior will know a thing or two about customer service, skill development and how to install a marine engine, thanks to his summer internship at Volvo Penta of the Americas. Sanders is one of 14 students who reported to the company’s Chesapeake, Va., headquarters in May to gain hands-on experience working for a global business that designs, builds and sells engines for leisure boats, commercial vessels and industrial applications.

CMR Group Awarded R&D Funding

CMR Group said it has won funding support from Innovate UK for a new electrical wiring harness being developed for industrial diesel and gas engines used in harsh environments. The firm, which specializes in marine control instrumentation and electrical engineering, is set to invest the five-figure cash sum in a major research and development program to design and develop a new generation of ‘people-centered’ harnesses. GE Gas Turbines Power Japanese Destroyer

GE's Marine Solutions reports that the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) commissioned its second Izumo-class helicopter-carrying destroyer. The new JS Kaga (DDH 184) is powered by four GE LM2500 marine gas turbines, and was commissioned at the Japan Marine United Corporation shipyard in Yokohama on March 22, 2017. First-in-class JS Izumo (DDH 183) and JS Kaga are the largest surface combatants in the JMSDF fleet. Both feature a powerful and reliable combined diesel and LM2500 gas turbine propulsion system, with the gas turbines using GE’s integrated electronic controls.

GE Reports Milestones on Australian Navy Builds

GE’s Marine Solutions reports several milestones have been reached on the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program. The three Hobart class destroyers, being built for the Royal Australian Navy, will be powered by the most widely used gas turbine in the marine industry, the GE LM2500. Eastern Selects MAN Engines for OPC

The US Coast Guard will have MAN’s 28/33D STC engines installed as the main propulsion for its new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) programme. The programme is the replacement platform for the 13 ‘Famous’ class and 14 ‘Reliance’ class cutter vessels, making the order the largest vessel procurement order in the Coast Guard’s history. Eagle LNG Joins SEA\LNG Coalition

The recently formed cross-industry coalition SEA\LNG is growing, now with the addition of bulk LNG provider Eagle LNG Partners as the first new industry partner to the coalition. SEA\LNG is a multi-sector industry coalition that aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel.
