Partners to Boost Australian Navy Fleet Performance

GE and CSIRO’s Data61, Australia's data innovation network, have developed a data analytics solution that will give the Royal Australian Navy greater insights into their fleet engine performance and enhance operational efficiency. GE supplies the Royal Australian Navy with its LM2500 gas turbines that power the Anzac, Adelaide, Canberra and Hobart class vessels. CSIRO’s Data61 has developed an application that will process data from GE engines captured from sensors and use advanced analytics to identify where improvements can be made.

RSC Bio Solutions Gains Kawasaki OEM Approvals

RSC Bio Solutions, a provider of high performance Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) - hydraulic fluids, gear oils and greases - and industrial cleaners and solvents, said it has received OEM approvals for use in Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP) and side thrusters. Volvo Penta Adds Dealer in Brazil

In a bid to expand its parts and service network across the Americas, Volvo Penta said it has appointed Entreposto as its newest dealer for Industrial and Marine Commercial engines in Brazil. One of Brazil’s largest distributors of industrial equipment, Entreposto will provide customers with products, parts and service from its five branches covering the northeast region of the country. The Entreposto Group came to Brazil in 1975, starting its operation selling agriculture machines.

STAUFF Introduces Oil Quality Sensor

According to STAUFF, interval oil changes are now a thing of the past thanks to its new Oil Quality Sensor (OQS). Because the OQS from STAUFF monitors oil condition – contamination and moisture – oil can be changed based on need rather than a set interval. This alone can lead to the savings of millions of gallons of oil a year, STAUFF said. Monitoring oil condition is clearly fundamental to understanding the optimal time to change: change too early and the cost is too high; change too late and the costs can be even greater.

ESRG Offers Cloud-based Vessel Monitoring

ESRG introduced the industrial internet to the marine sector with cloud-based total vessel monitoring and analytics. ESRG’s OstiaEdge platform as a service (PaaS), combined with cloud-based data-centers, enable ship managers and owners to have visibility into the performance and health of shipboard equipment from anywhere, including mobile devices. Data is automatically collected, validated and analyzed onboard the vessel and then automatically synched with remote data centers which provide the data, along with automated analytics, in the cloud.

Diesel Engine Manufacturers in Korea Joint Venture

Hyundai Heavy Industries & Cummins announce a J/V to build mid-range engines in Korea. The engines will extend from 150 hp to 300 hp (112-224 kW) output for application in a wide range of Hyundai construction and industrial equipment. The launch of the Hyundai Cummins Engine Company (HCEC) joint venture took place in Ulsan, Korea, with a ceremonial co-signing of the agreement by Byeong-Ku Choe, Chief Operating Officer and President – Hyundai Construction Equipment Division, and Rich Freeland, Cummins Vice President and President – Engine Business.

Iraqi Navy Ship Repair Facility Opens

VSE Corporation's GLOBAL Division teamed with the U.S. Naval Sea Systems command December 1 at a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the official opening of the Iraqi Navy Ship Repair Facility (SRF) in Umm Qasr, Iraq. VSE helped develop the SRF, which now serves as the Iraqi Navy's maintenance headquarters. The SRF is one of the first fully operational facilities in Iraq as part of the post war infrastructure sustainment. The facility, which was procured as part of a larger Foreign Military Sales case with the Iraqi Navy, will support five different vessel classes.
