Seaspan Orders 10 Dual-fuel LNG Containerships

Seaspan Corporation announced Friday that it has entered into an agreement to order up to 10 dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) containerships from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.Seaspan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp., said the deal is for five ultra-modern 15,000 TEU newbuilds, with an option for an additional five. MAN Hybrid Propulsion Package for Indonesian Navy's New Minehunters

German yard Abeking & Rasmussen has begun the construction of two minehunting vessels for the Indonesian Navy.MAN has won a contract to supply a complete hybrid propulsion package for both vessels.The delivery will include 2 × MAN 12V175D-MM engines delivering 2,220 kW at 1,900 rpm; a MAN Alpha CPP twin screw-propeller system including Alphatronic 3000 propulsion-control system for efficient and flexible maneuvering; and AKA hybrid PTI system for silent operation while minehunting (slow speed with pure electric propulsion).Ben Andres…

Rolls-Royce Sells Bergen Engine Medium Speed Business for $180m

Rolls-Royce signed an agreement to sell the Bergen Engines medium speed gas and diesel engines business to TMH International, the international branch of TMH Group, for net proceeds of approximately $180 million.TMH Group, based in Russia, is an engineering company in rail transport technologies and the world’s fourth largest supplier of rail rolling stock. It offers a range of products and services including medium-speed engines for rail applications with current production of more than 850 engines a year.

MAN to Supply Propulsion Packages for Israeli-built Patrol Boats

MAN Energy Solutions announced Thursday it has won the contract to supply complete propulsion packages to two OPV-45 offshore patrol vessels currently under construction at one of the largest privately owned shipbuilding and repair facilities in the Eastern Mediterranean.Israel Shipyards in Haifa is constructing the new patrol boats for an undisclosed African navy. The vessels are designed for a wide range of missions, including protection against the increasing threat of piracy in the region.The OPV-45 has an overall length of 45.7 m, a displacement of some 300 tons.

MAN Diesel & Turbo has supplied a complete propulsion system comprising a 7L32/44CR engine, Renk gears and an Alpha adjustable CP propeller for an ultra-modern chemicals tanker operated by GEFO Gesellschaft für Öltransporte mbH. For MAN Diesel & Turbo, the order represents a breakthrough for the 32/44CR series in the small twin-hulled tanker sector of the market. The tanker, christened Fidelio, has a DWT of 6366 and can transport 260 types of (petro-) chemical materials – from vegetable oil to sulfuric acid.

Israeli Submarine Named in German Shipyard

'INS Rahav', the Israeli Navy's 5th Dolphin-class submarine, inaugurated at Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems in Kiel, Germany. The new submarine  was unveiled at a special ceremony attended by Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy Rear Adm. Ram Rothberg, Director-General of the Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. (Res.) Ehud Shani and a delegation of Israeli and German officials. The INS Rahav was purchased after an extensive development and acquisition process led by the Ministry of Defense's Procurement and Production Directorate in cooperation with the Israeli Navy.

Harvey Gulf Buys 9 Bee Mar OSV's & to Stretch 5

Harvey Gulf International Marine closes its asset purchase purchase deal with Bee Mar LLC. The purchase price for the all-cash sale of Bee Mar's nine Offshore Supply Vessels was US$243-million. Harvey Gulf immediately renamed the vessels consistent with other Harvey Gulf vessels and began seeking bids to stretch 5 of the new vessels to meet 250’ OSV class specifications. Harvey Gulf also announced that it has exercised 2 of its 4 options to construct additional LNG OSV's at TY Offshore and added 2 additional options, which will eventually bring Harvey's new build LNG OSV's fleet to 10 vessels.

Russia to Develop Unmanned Ships

Unmanned ships to be developed by a United Shipbuilding Corp. He noted that nobody in Russia was working on that project at this time. "In 80's, Almaz Design Bureau used to work on the unmanned vessels. They were developing two projects; the first was a target ship which imitated destroyer and could move like destroyer, be seen on radar displays like destroyer and use destroyer's weapons. The second project was unmanned minesweeper. However, both projects were shut down then", Komrakov said.

Voith to Propel 70-ton Tug for the Port of Haifa

The Port of Haifa is one of the largest ports in Israel and a key hub for trade in the Eastern Mediterranean. The port handles over 20 million tons of goods a year. Four Voith Water Tractors ensure safe berthing of the container ships. On November, the tug fleet was enlarged by another Voith Water Tractor. With a bollard pull of 70 tons, the "Ilan" stands out from all other vessels. 30, 35 and 55 tons respectively. All vessels use the Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) propulsion system.
