ABB’s Azipods Ordered for 100th Cruise Ship
Azipod propulsion, the ABB technology that has become the industry standard in the cruise segment since its launch in 1990, has secured its 100th cruise ship order, winning a contract for powering the world’s first electric hybrid icebreaker. The luxury polar expedition cruise ship, due delivery for the French cruise company PONANT in 2021, will feature two Azipod VI propulsion units fit for the most challenging ice conditions. Upon delivery from Norway’s Vard Søviknes, a Fincantieri Company, the cruise ship will take passengers to unexplored destinations in Arctic and Antarctic waters.
Wärtsilä Acquires Lock-n-Stitch
Wärtsilä is expanding the service offering of its QuantiServ business line with the acquisition of the American engineering company Lock-n-Stitch. The QuantiServ business line within Wärtsilä Services was established in 2016 to provide support and maintenance services for customers operating equipment by multiple brands – including Wärtsilä acquired service brands (e.g. Deutz, Sulzer, Stork, Nohab, Crepelle) and/or other manufacturers’ brands – both in the marine and energy sectors.
GE to Provide Maintenance to TMS Cardiff Gas’ LNG Fleet
GE’s Marine Solutions and TMS CARDIFF GAS Ltd. have signed a service agreement that will see GE undertaking the support and maintenance of four TMS LNG vessels—Corcovado, Kita, Palu and Yari—for the next 10 years. GE will provide maintenance services to TMS fleet’s electric propulsion system, including providing parts to the propulsion motors, medium-voltage drives, generators and switchboard. It will also upgrade the vessels’ propulsion automation systems to enhance their remote and diagnostic capabilities.
ENGIE, Wärtsilä to Develop Small Scale LNG Markets
ENGIE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wärtsilä, a global leader in advanced technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets to develop solutions and services in the small scale LNG business. The cooperation covers four work streams: LNG for ships, LNG distribution in islands and remote areas, LNG to Power solutions and small scale LNG and bio liquefaction. Wärtsilä to Optimize GasLog's LNG Carriers
Wärtsilä informs it has signed a maintenance agreement with the GasLog LNG Services Limited that aims to ensure the reliability of operation of GasLog's seven LNG carriers, each having a cargo capacity of 155,000 cbm. According to Wärtsilä, the demand for predictive analytics and advisory services is increasing. By analyzing the data collected from GasLog's vessels, Wärtsilä said it is able to provide valuable information regarding the condition of the equipment, which enables GasLog to optimize maintenance and asset performance.

ABB has signed an extensive service agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCC) to increase cost efficiency and predictability of maintenance costs. The agreement spans 15 years and encompasses six vessels under RCC’s brands Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International. The financial value of the service agreement is in excess of $50 million. The agreement covers four Solstice and two Oasis class vessels and includes an option to extend the agreement to additional existing vessels, vessels that are currently under construction and future newbuilds.
ABB to Maintain Prestige Cruise Fleet Turbochargers
ABB announced that it has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with Prestige Cruise Holdings (PCH) to provide services, parts and support for all turbochargers installed on its fleet of eight cruise ships. Austal Gets Oman NFC Fleet Maintenance Contract
The Sultanate of Oman’s National Ferries Company (NFC) awards Austal a new 12-month vessel maintenance contract. Austal had previously held a three-year Vessel Maintenance Services Agreement which concluded in October this year. Under this new 12-month contract, Austal will support and maintain two 52 metre patrol vessels for the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard, three high speed vehicle-passenger ferries and one landing craft. Austal will also strengthen its support capability in the Sultanate of Oman through investment in maintenance facilities in the ports of Khasab and Shinas.
