United Wind Logistics Picks MAN GenSets for Newbuilding

Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard Group Co,.Ltd has ordered 2 × MAN 9L 21/31 + 2 × MAN 6L16/24 GenSets in connection with the construction of an modern deck carrier. The specialized vessel will transport offshore wind-turbine components and has been ordered by Hamburg-based company, United Wind Logistics (UWL), which is employing Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG for building supervision and technical management. MAN Power for Chinese Dredger

MAN Energy Solutions won the order to supply the engine for a new dredger in southern China. The MAN 9L48/60CR unit will power the newbuilding vessel currently under construction at Dongguan Xiandai Shipbuilding Co. for sister company, Dongguan Rundong Shipping Co., Ltd., which will produce sand for the local construction industry.The four-stroke 9L48/60CR engine is rated at 9,720 kW @ 514 rpm and features MAN Energy Solutions’ exhaust-gas turbocharging and two-stage charge-air cooling. It is designed for heavy-duty operation – even with fuel qualities down to HFO-700 cSt / 50°C.

LNG Switch for first of six Baleària Ferries

Baleària has begun retrofitting its Nápoles ferry to be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG)The ferry arrived at the  Gibdock shipyards for modification of the engines, and to install an LNG tank with the work expected to be completed by February 15.Thus, the two engines currently on the ship (MAN9L48/60) will become 9L51/60DF versions which are dual-fuel liquefied natural gas and diesel engines produced by the company MAN Energy Solutions. LR Grants AiP for LPG-fueled Gas Carrier

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd's Register (LR) for a very large gas carrier (VLGC) design capable of using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel.LPG presents advantages over marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO) when a VLGC is able to utilize the LPG cargo on board as a fuel. However, safety issues need to be thoroughly examined particularly in relation to potential leaks of LPG in a confined space and the implications for ventilation.

BW LPG Chooses New MAN B&W ME-LGIP Technology

MAN Energy Solutions has announced the first retrofit orders for its new MAN B&W ME-LGIP LGP-powered engine.The contract with Oslo-listed BW LPG involves the world’s first retrofitting of four MAN B&W 6G60ME-C9.2 HFO-burning engines to 6G60ME-C9.5-LGIP LPG-propelled dual-fuel engines, plus options for further retrofits in the future. Green Shipping: Toward a Clean Future

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced its targets of cutting greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping in half by the year 2050, and to make ships entirely CO2-neutral before 2100. But long before that, the so-called sulphur cap will take effect: From 2020 all oceangoing ships must run on fuel that contains no more than 0.5 per cent of sulphur. According to estimates by classification society DNV GL, up to 70,000 ships will be subject to this requirement.
