Van Oord Orders Two New Dredgers
Rotterdam-based dredging and marine contractor Van Oord has recently ordered two trailing-suction hopper dredgers as part of its continuous investment program. The vessels will be constructed at CNN LaNaval Shipyard in Sestao, Spain with delivery dates scheduled for 2017. Each vessel will feature a complete MAN Diesel & Turbo propulsion package with MAN 6L48/60CR engines, RENK gearboxes with PTO, MAN Alpha CP Propeller systems, AHT (Alpha High Thrust) Propeller nozzles and MAN Alpha AT3000 propulsion-control systems.
Fairmount Tugs Deliver Noble Tamar Jacket
'Fairmount Summit' & 'Fairmount Alpine' tow laden barge from Corpus Christi US to Mediterranean offshore field. Both tugs towed the barge on which the 18,500 ton jacket was loaded from the US to the field South-East of Cyprus. In Corpus Christi the jacket was loaded on Heerema Marine Contractor's 260 meters long barge H-851, the world’s largest launch and cargo barge. From this port the convoy set sail for the 9,000 miles voyage, which took only 54 days at an average speed of 6.9 knots to deliver the barge in the Tamar field.
Briggs Marine Wins London Ferry Contract
UK marine contractor Briggs Marine wins 7-year contract worth over £50 million with Transport for London (TfL) to operate cross-Thames ferry. The contract will see Briggs Marine undertake operation and maintenance of the Woolwich Ferry service from 1st April 2013. Working with London River Services Limited (LRS), a subsidiary of TfL, Briggs Marine will be responsible for daily operation of the ferry service, which links Woolwich and North Woolwich and the north and south circular roads across the River Thames.
Dockwise Reports Multi-million US$ Backlog
Dockwise Ltd. has 6 new contracts, letters of intent and contract extensions with a total value of almost US$ 60 million. Dockwise, headquartered in Breda, the Netherlands, is a leading marine contractor providing total transport services to the offshore, onshore and yachting industries as well as installation services of extremely heavy offshore platforms. The company also operates a fleet of 25 purpose built semi-submersible vessels (including Dockwise Vanguard, White Marlin and Finesse).
Cal Dive Nets International Contracts
Cal Dive International charters out diving vessel & also wins 3 Australian saturation diving contracts. The company's diving vessel Kestrel is chartered to a major contractor in Mexico to perform repair and maintenance work for Pemex. The charter started in mid-October and has a fixed term of two years with an additional one-year option. The charter is expected to result in EBITDA of approximately $10 million per year during the two-year charter term. The vessel is expected to generate approximately break-even EBITDA in 2012.
Fairmount Sherpa Tows Rig Atwood Condor
Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Sherpa has delivered rig Atwood Condor fast and safely in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The semi submersible rig was towed from Port Louis, Mauritius, over a distance of 8,100 nautical miles with an average speed of 8.5 knots. The Atwood Condor is a 2012 Singapore build dynamically positioned semi submersible drilling unit capable of operating in 3,050 meters of water and drilling depths up to 12,200 meters. The 118 meter long state-of-theart rig has a accommodation capacity for up to 200 persons. The rig is owned by Atwood Oceanics, headquartered in Houston, US.
Costa Concordia Wreck – Removal Contract Awarded
Costa Crociere and the Costa Concordia Emergency Commissioner's Office announced that the tender for the removal of the ship from Giglio Island has been awarded to Titan Salvage in partnership with the Italian firm Micoperi. The work will begin in early May subject to final approval from the Italian authorities and is expected to take about 12 months. Titan Salvage is an American-owned specialist marine salvage and wreck removal company, part of the Crowley Group, and is a world leader in its field.
Wartsila Receives Three New Orders
Wärtsilä has recently been awarded a series of orders to supply propulsion solutions for dredger vessels to be built in China and the Netherlands. Wärtsilä will provide the engines and fixed pitch propellers (FPP) to Van Oord, the Netherland-based dredging and marine contractor. The equipment installation is for the "Artemis," the second of two large self propelled cutter suction dredgers being built for the company at the IHC Dredgers shipyard in Kinderdijk, the Netherlands. The equipment order for the first vessel, the "Athena," was placed earlier in 2008.
