Japanese Partners Join Asahi's Electric Vessel Project
A group of Japanese partner companies have signed onto a project initiated by Asahi Tanker Co., Ltd. to build the world's first zero-emission, fully electric-propulsion bunker supply vessel.The so-called e5 Consortium, including Asahi Tanker Co., Ltd., Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., Exeno Yamamizu Corporation, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd., Tokyo Electric Power Company, and Mitsubishi Corporation, say they will work toward developing, realizing and commercializing zero-emission electric vessels.

New Japanese-built LNG Carrier Named
A naming ceremony was held for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, Diamond Gas Orchid, at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.’s Nagasaki Shipyard.The newbuild, owned by Diamond LNG Shipping 1 Pte. Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture company between NYK and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), will sail under a long-term time-charter contract with MC’s wholly owned subsidiary in Singapore, Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd.After delivery on June 29, 2018, the ship will transport LNG from Louisiana in the U.S.
Statoil Selects Gas4Sea for LNG Bunkering in Rotterdam
Gas4Sea partners - ENGIE, Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK - have been selected by Norwegian multinational energy group Statoil to be their liquefied natural gas (LNG) marine fuel supplier in the port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, for four crude shuttle tankers. The four planned dual fuel vessels are to come into service in early 2020 and will be operated by Statoil in Northern European seas. Gas4Sea will supply LNG using the ENGIE Zeebrugge which started operations earlier this year.
Ship-to-ship LNG Bunkering Starts in Port of Zeebrugge
The bunkering vessel ENGIE Zeebrugge performed in the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, its first deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel to M/V Auto Eco and M/V Auto Energy, the two new gas-propelled pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) of UECC. The LNG bunkering operations were conducted simultaneously while cargo operations for PCTCs were taking place. ENGIE Zeebrugge, which is the world’s first purpose-built LNG bunkering vessel, arrived in Zeebrugge at the beginning of April after delivery from Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co.
Two New SEA\LNG Partners
SEA\LNG, which works to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, has welcomed two new partners, each representing key aspects of the LNG maritime value chain: ABS and Keppel Offshore & Marine’s Gas Technology Development. The recent decision by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPS) to enforce the global 0.5 percent cap on the sulphur content of marine fuel by 2020 has significantly increased interest in LNG as a cost effective, safe and more environmentally friendly fuel.
Eagle LNG Joins SEA\LNG Coalition
The recently formed cross-industry coalition SEA\LNG is growing, now with the addition of bulk LNG provider Eagle LNG Partners as the first new industry partner to the coalition. SEA\LNG is a multi-sector industry coalition that aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. Officially launched in July this year, founding partners include Carnival Corporation & plc, DNV GL, ENGIE, ENN, GE, GTT, Lloyd’s Register, Mitsubishi Corporation, NYK Line, Port of Rotterdam, Qatargas, Shell, TOTE Inc. and Wärtsilä.

Award for Japan's First LNG-fueled Tugboat
NYK Line received award sponsored by the Japan Federation of Freight Industries (JFFI) recognizing the environmental load reduction achieved by Japan's first LNG-fueled tugboat, Sakigake. This is the third time since 2009 that NYK has been honored at this annual awards ceremony.
