Tradewinds Towing Returns to Laborde for Repowers

In September of 2006, Dominique Smith of the then one tug company Tradewinds Towing came to Laborde Products, to look at the S12R engine for the repower of the Miss Lis, an Alaskan built low profile tug he planned on repowering. Later that same month, the deal was made, and shortly thereafter, the Miss Lis set sail with new Mitsubishi engines and Reintjes transmissions supplied by Laborde Products. Since then, the engines have logged over 30,000 hours travelling throughout North, Central and South America.

Laborde Repower Provides Long Tug Endurance

Smith Maritime depends on Laborde. For its third repower with Smith, Laborde supplied three Mitsubishi S12R-Y2MPTK Tier II engines rated at 5,000 hp for the tug Rhea. For its maiden voyage, Rhea towed a huge piece of oil-field equipment for 7 weeks. Rhea is a small, powerful, agile, sea-going tug capable of withstanding the rigors of any service in all weather conditions.  www.labordeproducts.com (As published in the July 2014 edition of Marine News - http://magazines.marinelink.com/Magazines/MaritimeNews)

Repowered Tug Tows 7 Weeks Nonstop

When business depends on commercial vessels, it's essential for these boats to stay in good condition. Unreliable engines and equipment can lead to days or weeks off the water for repairs, resulting in lost customers. To ensure its fleet is always prepared for the job, Smith Maritime depends on Laborde Products. For its third repower with Smith Maritime, Laborde supplied three Mitsubishi S12R-Y2MPTK Tier II engines rated at 5,000 hp for the tug Rhea. For its maiden voyage, Rhea towed a huge piece of oilfield equipment from Texas to Cape Verde Islands off of Africa before moving on to Nigeria.

LaBorde Repowers Inland Waterway Pushboat

When it was time to repower one of its commercial vessels, Plant Recovery Company (PRC) turned to Laborde Products. PRC's M/V Victoria is a pushboat used for transporting barges through inland waterways. Laborde installed Mitsubishi S12R-Y1MPTA engines, rated 1,180 hp at 1,600 rpm. It also installed Twin Disc  MG 540 transmissions and new RW Fernstrum grid coolers. "I talked to people that had Mitsubishi engines and they were all happy," said Marc Atkins of PRC. "We couldn't be happier with our engines. Laborde is one of the best companies you could ever work with.
