Mitsubishi's DIA-SOx Scrubbers Installed on 22 Ships YTD
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, says its DIA-SOx marine scrubbers have been installed on 22 ships during the last eight months.The builder said the installations were completed as scheduled despite the continued spread of COVID-19 globally through remote commissioning conducted via close communication and cooperation with its local partners' engineers in China and Singapore.The DIA-SOx lineup consists of the R Series and C Series.

MOL Gets AIP for Wind Challenger Design

AEGIR-Marine Wins NK Class Type Approval
AEGIR-Marine assigned with an NK Class Type Approval. The newly certified seal assembly will be available for customers worldwide as of today. They are an addition to our Type Approval from several other major classification societies.For the NK Class Approval AEGIR-Marine performed a 2,000 hours endurance test in its state-of-the-art and certified R&D Test Center. A 1,000 hours of test runs were at extreme RPM and another 1,000 hours were at low to average RPM. Also, the conditions a seal has to withstand were simulated as realistically as possible.
Star Bulk, Eco Marine Power Commence Renewable Energy Study
As part of its continued focus on bringing renewable energy solutions to shipping, Eco Marine Power (EMP) has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Star Bulk S.A. (Star Bulk) covering a joint study project focused on the feasibility of using EMP’s technologies on existing and new bulk carriers. The joint study between Star Bulk and EMP will cover engineering issues related to how various equipment including solar panels, batteries and other devices can be installed on existing and new ships.

Panama Certifies Japanese Scrubber System
For almost a year Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Mitsubishi Kakoki Kaisha, Ltd. (MKK) have been performing tests aboard an operational ship of a newly-developed "Hybrid SOx Scrubber System" for removing sulfur oxides (SOx) from the exhaust gas emitted by marine diesel engines. The testing results have now verified that the system's effectiveness in curbing emissions of air pollutants complies with international regulations, and the system has been officially approved by the Republic of Panama, the country where the test ship is registered.

EMP Renewable Energy Battery Solution for Ships
A range of marine battery solutions received approval for use on-board ships or marine related applications such as offshore platforms and renewable energy projects. Available from Eco Marine Power (EMP), a developer of renewable energy solutions for ships, in cooperation with storage batteries and electrical machinery manufacturer Furukawa Battery Company of Japan, the battery range has been accepted for use on classed vessels by ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai) in addition to having been evaluated by EMP.
NYK Gets Japan's First LNG-Fuelled Tug
NYK Line has taken delivery of Japan’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled tugboat from Keihin Dock. "The new tug, named Sakigake, was delivered by Keihin Dock Co. Ltd and is expected confirm the viability of LNG as a marine fuel and to help cultivate a new business field in the area of LNG as an environment-friendly marine fuel,” says NYK. Sakigake has been chartered to Wing Maritime Service Corporation from NYK, and will be operated mainly at the ports of Yokohama and Kawasaki.
Aquarius MAS + Solar Ready for Commercial Use
As a result of the recent successful completion of sea trials on-board the high speed car and passenger ferry, Blue Star Delos, Eco Marine Power (EMP) has now cleared the Aquarius MAS + Solar and Aquarius Marine Solar Power solutions for commercial release. During two days of testing and evaluation on the 17th and 19th May, 2015, the performance of the Aquarius MAS + Solar trial system on-board Delos was assessed by both EMP and Blue Star Ferries technical personnel as part of the Blue Star Delos Renewable Energy Innovation Project.

Tenneco (NYSE: TEN) has announced that it has introduced a complete urea dosing control, fluid handling and catalyst solution for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment, enabling large engines to meet EPA Tier IV and IMO Tier III regulations. The company will showcase the complete system at the 2014 WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, Dec. 3-5, 2014 (Booth #2152). The system is designed specifically for high-horsepower engines in the marine, stationary and locomotive markets, providing precise and reliable delivery of liquid urea.

MOL to Test NOx-reducing SCR System
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced plans to install the Selective catalytic Reduction (SCR) system — jointly developed by MOL, Yanmar Co., Ltd. (President: Takehito Yamaoka), and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President: Kensuke Namura) — on all three power generators of an MOL-operated oceangoing freighter for a demonstration test. This test demonstrates NOx denitration under the actual operation of freighter, to meet the Tier III NOx regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Finland's Bore to Install ClassNK Efficiency Software
Shipping company Bore Ltd. to install ClassNK-NAPA GREEN ship efficiency software aboard their 13,625 dwt Ro-Ro vessel 'M/V Bore Song'. This announcement follows on from sea trials last year aboard sister ship M/V Bore Sea which proved that NAPA operational software had led to a 5.8% reduction in fuel consumption. The ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software system is a joint development between Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK), the world’s largest ship classification society, and NAPA, the leading software house for ship design and operations.

BWTS Fitting on Japanese VLCC a First
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) plan to install a ballast water treatment system on an in-service very large crude oil carrier (VLCC). This will be the first such onboard system installed by any Japanese shipowner on an existing VLCC. The company chose the JFE Ballast Ace system developed by JFE Engineering Corporation. The installation will take place while the vessel is docked from March through April. Ballast water discharged while loading/discharging cargo carries marine organisms around the world and can have a negative impact on marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
