Berthon Named UK, Ireland Distributor for Cox Powertrain
British marine diesel innovator Cox Powertrain has announced Berthon as the sole U.K. and Ireland distributor for its high powered, low weight diesel outboard engines, the first of which, the CXO300, will be launched next year. From its Lymington base, Berthon will be responsible for sales of the engines in the Solent and along the south coast and will hold stock of new engines and spare parts at its warehouse. Lucion Awarded UK Bunker Testing Contract
Lucion Marine wins U.K. Hazardous material and risk management specialist Lucion Marine, part of the Lucion Services Group, has won a major contract with the U.K.’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to provide fuel oil sampling and testing services at ports across the U.K. and Northern Ireland. MAN 32/44CR Engine for Trawler Newbuild
Voyager Fishing Company, Ltd., based in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, has ordered a new trawler/purse seiner, designed by Salt Ship Design in Norway and to be built at Karstensens Skipsværft in Skagen, Denmark. The newbuilding will be powered by a propulsion package comprising a MAN 12V32/44CR main engine, a 4,400-mm ø MAN Alpha VBS 1100 propeller, a two-speed RENK Type RSVL1000 gearbox, and an Alphatronic AT3000 remote control system. Vessel delivery is scheduled for August 2017.
Voith Schneider Propellers for New Irish Ferry
The double-ended ferry MV Strangford has been in operation for more than 45 years, connecting the two towns of Portaferry and Strangford in the northern part of the Irish Sea. The Department for Regional Development Northern Ireland (DRDNI) responsible for the local ferry service now decided to replace the old double-ended ferry MV Strangford, which had been equipped with Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP), with a new one. The DRDNI again chose the VSP propulsion concept for the new double-ended ferry. The particular feature of this double-ended ferry is its docking at concrete ramps.
European Commission Finances Renewable Energy Projects
The Commission has awarded over €1.2 billion to 23 innovative renewable energy technology (RES) projects. The projects cover a wide range of renewable energy technologies from bioenergy (including advanced biofuels), concentrated solar power and geothermal power to wind power, ocean energy and distributed renewable management (smart grids). The projects will be hosted in 16 EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
