ABC Diesel Gasses Ahead With Dual Fuel Ferry

A new ferry is under construction in northern Spain to serve the Dutch island of Texel. The vessel is powered by four main engines from Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) and split between two independent engine rooms, each of which can provide sufficient power to ensure normal service at least up to Beaufort 9 wind force. Two of the ABC engines are of diesel/CNG dual-fuel type, running at a maximum 1,000 rpm, and two are 750 rpm diesels, and each has a rated maximum output of just over 2,000 kW.

EU Funds LNG Bunkering Study

Studies on liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering infrastructure in Spain and France get EU grant. The European Union will support with just over €1 million from the TEN-T Programme a series of studies to analyse the potential introduction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in Spain and France. The studies, selected for funding under the 2012 TEN-T Multi-Annual Call, aim at determining the feasibility of implementing LNG bunkering facilities in the Port of Roscoff (northwest France) and the Port of Santander (northern Spain).

Spanish Shipyard Installs Azimuth Prop Work Pitstop

Astander's UK agents, Simplex-Turbulo announce the installation of two significantly sized pits, which provide a much more economic and straightforward alternative to the usual double docking bed and give Astander a significant advantage over other shipyards who are not able to dock vessels with deep drafts or who have thrusters which need to be removed. The forward pit, sitting longitudinally along the centre line, has dimensions of length 15m, breadth 10.5m, and depth 1.5m, the aft pit lies athwart ships with dimensions 21m x 7m x1.5m.

Craig Group Launch Largest Ever PSV

Launch of an S-class Platform Supply Vessel (PSV)  at Balenciaga Shipyard in Northern Spain for the Craig Group. The Craig Group has committed £50-million to the construction of the vessel, Grampian Sovereign, and its sister ship, Grampian Sceptre. Managed by The Craig Group division North Star Shipping, the two IMT-982 designed vessels will also create 50 new jobs for the Aberdeen based company.
