MAN Mulls Liquid Hydrogen Storage

German-based power generator MAN Energy Solutions is joining a partnership aimed at expanding hydrogen storage systems based on the Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology.MAN has signed on to a cooperative agreement with Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies and Frames Group B.V. Together they will design and build large-scale hydrogen storage systems.Developed by Hydrogenious the LOHC technology uses heat transfer oil as a carrier for hydrogen, thus allowing it to be stored under ambient conditions.

DSV Rever Polaris Gets Engine Overhaul

IMO 2020: Exxon Mobil Projects 25% Decline in High-Sulfur Fuels

Exxon Mobil Corp expects high-sulfur fuel oil demand to fall 25 percent by 2025, as a new set of emission regulations from the International Maritime Organization capping sulfur content in shipping fuel at 0.5% kicks in in 2020, a top-level official at the U.S. oil and gas company said on Monday.The International Energy Agency has forecast high-sulfur fuel oil demand to fall 60 percent next year, while marine gas oil demand to more than double.Exxon's forecast comes as its refining business is struggling to find enough heavy crude to make fuel oil and other distillates, in the face of U.S.

MAN Scores OffShore Wind Reference

MAN Energy Solutions reported that it won an order to supply the engines for a new heavy-lift crane installation-vessel for Oslo-based OHT (Offshore Heavy Transport).In total, MAN ES will supply four MAN 12V32/44CR GenSets with a total output of 28,800 kW for the ship, which is being built at the shipyard of China Merchants Heavy Industry in Haimen/Nantong with delivery due in Q4, 2020. The order is for a single vessel, with options for three more.The Alfa Lift is a heavy installation crane vessel design with semi-submersible heavy transportation capabilities.

Wärtsilä is Building a Tech Hub in Vaasa

Wärtsilä is building a new center of research, product development and production, in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. Royston Completes FPSO Engine Overhaul

An engineering team from power specialist Royston has completed the overhaul of engines on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, operated by Bluewater Services.Engineers undertook the 16,000-hour service on the Wartsila W6L46 diesel engines onboard the 252m, 103,000 DWT Samsung built Haewene Brim, as part of a comprehensive refurbishment and refit of critical fuel and power systems.The FPSO has been operating in the Shell’s Pierce field located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea for the past five years.

Wärtsilä to Assist Transocean with Thruster Maintenance

Wärtsilä and Transocean will optimize the maintenance of all Wärtsilä thrusters installed within the Transocean fleet, while seeking to reduce dry-docking costs by extending the service intervals of the thrusters. The agreement aims to deliver fewer interruptions to operations, which will result in benefits for both parties.The performance-based agreement builds on the Wärtsilä Propulsion Condition Monitoring Service (PCMS), that collects performance data from the thrusters and delivers it to a Wärtsilä Expertise Centre for analysis.

Twin Disc Acquires Veth Propulsion

U.S. based power transmission technology and equipment manufacturer Twin Disc, Inc. announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Netherlands based marine propulsion products supplier Veth Propulsion Holding, B.V. and its wholly-owned subsidiaries.Twin Disc said the purchase price is approximately $58.6 million plus net cash, with potential adjustments based on Veth Propulsion’s working capital as of the closing date, and will be financed through a combination of cash and new debt facilities.
