SCHOTTEL Equips Six Polish Navy Tugs

Bolko, the first of a total of six multi-role tugs built by Remontowa Shipyard in Poland has recently been delivered to the Polish Navy. Further five tugs – Gniewko, Mieszko, Semko, Leszko and Przemko – are scheduled for delivery in the near future. Each of the ASD tugs is equipped with two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 360 FP. They will be used for military and logistic operations support at sea and in ports.The propulsion system of the Navy tugs consists of two ice-classed SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 360 with 2.0 m fixed pitch propellers.

Schottel Propulsion for Chinese Harbor Tug

Schottel won a contract to provide propulsion units for a new harbor tug under construction at Tongfang Jiangxin Shipbuilding in China. Ordered by the Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration, it will be equipped with SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 430. Each of the azimuth thrusters will be driven by a 1,920 kW diesel engine at 750 rpm. This configuration aims to provide an expected bollard pull of 60 tonnes and a free running speed of approximately 13 knots.The 45 x 12.6m tug is built primarily for vessel rescue and pollution prevention near shore as well as for towing operations.

A Maneuverable Oil Spill Response Vessel

The maritime industry has seen an increased need for high speed spill response in step with expanding offshore oil exploration and production. Meeting this need is the newest skimmer boat from Washington-based shipbuilder Rozema Boat Works: a 65-foot oil spill recovery vessel (OSRV), G.M. Penman. New Arctic Oil Spill Recovery Icebreaker

Aker Arctic Technology to introduce the ‘Heavy Duty’ oblique icebreaker project for Arctic operations (Aker ARC 100 HD) at upcoming expo. The ARC 100 HD is a new advance on what is already recognised as a true design innovation to allow ice-going vessel operations in the harshest of environments. It is distinguished by its inclusion of new technical solutions covering oil spill response. Formal launch coincides with the start of hull assembly work on the first vessel to be built to the ARC 100 concept for delivery to the Russian Ministry of Transport by early 2014.

Major Oil Spill Recovery Reception Facilities: New EMSA Report

The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) publishes its report on facilities for discharge of oil collected following a major oil spill in the sea. This report is the main deliverable of the project "Study on discharge facilities for oil recovered at sea – Geographical distribution, technical challenges, solutions and alternatives related to the discharge of oil recovered at sea by specialised vessels, following a large oil spill in Europe" (EMSA OP/07/2011), commissioned by EMSA.

Rolls-Royce Wins OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce signed a £10 million contract with Simon Møkster Shipping for a wave piercing offshore vessel with a new bow design that will go into service for Statoil in the Arctic region. The vessel is designed to pierce through the waves under harsh weather conditions, making it possible to keep a more constant speed, reduce the use of fuel and increase on board safety. Pollution Control Vessels Launched

Three unique pollution control vessels have been launched in Dorset – with a fourth under construction. The vessels – three with Doosan engines and Westerbeke generators from engine and generator specialist WaterMota – are to be used for  oil spill recovery in South America and West Africa. Build by Manor Marine for Desmi Ro-Clean, the steel Pollution Catamarans (Pollcats) – 19m, 15.5m and 12m - are designed to absorb oil or pollution working at a speed of up to five knots, with a speed when not working of at least nine knots in order to provide a rapid response and quick travel to incidents.

Caterpillar Wins Order to Power 16 New Offshore Vessels in Brazil

Caterpillar was selected to power 16 offshore supply vessels for use in operation in the Brazilian offshore market. Caterpillar received orders requiring a total of 56 Cat and MaK Diesel Electric Propulsion Engine (DEP) generator sets for offshore supply vessel newbuilds. The vessels include four oil spill recovery vessels (OSRV) and 12 platform supply vessels (PSV). The Cat diesel generator sets ordered include the 3512C DEP in two power ratings: 1550 ekW at 1800 rpm (60Hz) and 1700 ekW at 1800 rpm (60 Hz); and the 3516C DEP, rated at 2000 ekW at 1800 rpm (60 Hz).
