Mitsubishi Shipbuilding held a christening ceremony for a next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier under construction for MOG-X LNG Shipholding S.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL).The ship, named "LNG JUNO," is the third "Sayaringo STaGE" type vessel, and is Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's newest carrier to feature significant improvements in both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance through adoption of a more efficient hull structure and an innovative hybrid propulsion system.

A naming ceremony was held for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, Diamond Gas Orchid, at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.’s Nagasaki Shipyard.The newbuild, owned by Diamond LNG Shipping 1 Pte. Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture company between NYK and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), will sail under a long-term time-charter contract with MC’s wholly owned subsidiary in Singapore, Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd.After delivery on June 29, 2018, the ship will transport LNG from Louisiana in the U.S.

NASSCO Begins Building Matson’s LNG-ready ConRos
San Diego shipyard General Dynamics NASSCO said it has begun building the first of two liquefied natural gas (LNG)-capable combination containership/roll-on, roll-off (ConRo) vessels for Matson Navigation Company, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Matson, Inc. The 265-meter-long, 3,500 TEU Kanaloa class design was developed by the shipyard in partnership with Daewoo Ship Engineering Company, and incorporates Tier III compliant LNG-capable main and auxiliary engines, with accommodation for future LNG fuel gas system installation.

Pilbara Marine Orders 6 Rotor Tugs
Pilbara Marine Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd has placed an order with Damen Shipyards for the building of six, 32-meter Rotor Tugs. These will be deployed at the company’s operations at Port Hedland on Australia’s west coast, the world’s largest bulk export port. From there, Fortescue exports 165-170 million metric tons of iron ore per year. The six tugs are of the ART 85-32W class, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. Their Rotor Tug propulsion system features three azimuth thrusters; two forward and one aft.
MHI Seeks to Integrate Marine Diesel Engine Businesses
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), its wholly owned subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME), and Kobe Diesel Co., Ltd. have concluded a basic agreement to pursue integration of the marine diesel engine operations of MHI-MME and Kobe Diesel. Based on this, the three parties will seek to reach agreement on the terms of the integration by a target date of late December. This will be followed by the signing of the final agreement by early February, 2017.
Wartsila Wins Deal for Four LNG Tankers
Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract covering four newbuild tanker vessels. The ships are to be built at the Avic Dingheng shipyard in China, on behalf of three Swedish owners; Furetank (two vessels), Älvtank, and Thun Tankers, a fully owned subsidiary of Thunbolagen. The vessels will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance. The contracts were signed in the second quarter of 2016. The ships will fulfil the IMO's Tier III requirements and will be fuelled primarily by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The scope of Wärtsilä's supply to this project is extensive.
Kongsberg Wins EPCI Contract for New Ferry Builds
Kongsberg Maritime informs it has been awarded engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contracts worth more than NOK 160 million with the Glasgow based shipbuilder and marine fabricator Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited (FMEL) for two new 100-meter ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL). The ferries will be dual-fuel vessels so they can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine diesel, and are designed to carry 127 cars or 16 HGVs, or a combination of both and up to 1,000 passengers.
First Methanol-fueled Tanker Launched
Launched at the Hyundai Mipo dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the newly built Lindanger is the world’s first methanol fueled ocean-going vessel. The ship is the first of two dual-fueled 50,000 dwt tankers owned by Norwegian firm Westfal-Larsen that will be chartered to global marine transportation company Waterfront Shipping. With a MAN designed Hyundai–B&W 6G50ME-9.3 ME-LGI dual-fuel, two-stroke engine on board, the Lindanger can run on methanol, fuel oil, marine diesel oil or gasoil.
Keppel, BG Group JV to supply LNG Bunkers in Singapore
Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), through its wholly-owned subsidiary KS Investments Pte Ltd (KSI), and BG Group plc (BG Group) have been selected to supply Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker to vessels in the Port of Singapore. The joint bid submitted by Keppel O&M and BG Group for the LNG bunker supplier licence is one of the two top bids selected by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The awarding of the licence is in line with the Port of Singapore's plans to launch the LNG Bunkering Pilot Programme in 2017.
DuPont Scrubber Systems Ordered for Bulker Newbuilds
Jiangsu Hantong Shipyard Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. has awarded a contract to DuPont Sustainable Solutions for the supply of its DuPont Marine Scrubber systems for two new-build, self-unloading bulk carriers. The scrubber systems were developed by Belco Technologies Corporation (BELCO), a DuPont subsidiary. Rolls-Royce Wins Sinopacific Contract
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (Sinopacific) in Shanghai for a package of power and propulsion equipment and deck machinery. The contract is to equip nine SPA80A Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels to be designed and built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. Each ship will have a bollard pull of 80 metric tons, and be equipped with Bergen diesel engines, main and tunnel thrusters, electrical power system and a deck machinery package from Rolls-Royce.
MAN Diesel & Turbo Acquires Cryo’s Marine Fuel & Bunkering Business
MAN Diesel & Turbo Sverige AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE (part of MAN and Volkswagen Group), acquires the marine fuel gas supply system (FGSS) business from the Sweden based Cryo AB, part of the Linde Engineering Division and a manufacturer of cryogenic equipment for the storage, distribution and handling of liquefied gases. Totem Inks LNG Conversion Deal with Keppel
Totem Ocean Trailer Express announced that it has signed a contract with Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd, wholly owned subsidiary Keppel Shipyard Ltd for the conversion of the Midnight Sun to dual fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion. This is the world’s first major conversion of a large RO/RO vessel to LNG. The work will begin in December and is expected to be completed in 90 days.
