Port of Luleå 36m Hybrid Icebreaker Tug Delivered

The powerful 36 meter hybrid icebreaker tug Vilja was delivered to her Owner, Port of Luleå, on June 26th, 2019 at Gondan Shipyard in Spain. On July 4th, Vilja arrived in Luleå and the crew was very satisfied with the first sailing experience and tug performance on the journey home. The vessel will soon be used for ice management, firefighting and navigation aids service duties in the Port of Luleå, Sweden and will assist ships and conduct coastal towing in the northern sector of the Gulf of Bothnia.Vilja is a 36 meter TundRA 3600–H, Icebreaking Escort Tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd.

Washburn & Doughty Wins Hybrid Tug Orders

East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. The vessel will be built as a Harbor Assist Vessel as defined in USCG Subchapter M and admeasure less than 200 gross tons U.S. regulatory tonnage. Caterpillar Marine will provide a ‘stem-to-stern’ Cat content hybrid propulsion system, with support from both Milton Cat and Louisiana Cat in the sales effort.

Dual-fuel Escort Tug for Østensjø Rederi

The first of three new dual fuel RAstar 4000-DF class extreme escort tugs, the Dux, has been delivered to Østensjø Rederi AS by Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondán S.A. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., the 40.2 meter vessel is the first of a three boat order from Østensjø for severe weather operations at Statoil's Melkøya LNG Gas terminal at Hammerfest in the extreme north of Norway. These escort tugs will conduct approximately 300 LNG ship escorts annually, assist with berthing operations and will be maintained in readiness for emergency services such as long line towing…

Palfinger Chooses NAMJet Waterjets

Netherlands-based Palfinger Boats has launched the first of two Damen-designed FRSQ 1200 fast-rescue/oil response vessels. Built in Harderwijk, Netherlands, the 12-meter (40-foot) vessel is powered by dual 440-horsepower (hp) Yanmar diesels mated to twin NAMJet TJ431 HH waterjets. Designed to be carried aboard larger ships as a “daughter-craft,” the 9.6-ton vessel’s primary mission is oil spill response, which will make exceptional use of the vessel’s 4.1-ton bollard pull capacity.

Scottish Sea Farms Takes New Vessel Delivery

Scottish Salmon Farms has taken delivery of its latest vessel – powered by twin Doosan V158TIH main engines supplied by WaterMota. Designed by consultant naval architects AG Salmon as a multi-role vessel, Sally Ann was built by Arklow Marine Services in Ireland for Scottish Sea Farms to be used on the West Coast of Scotland across all the Scottish Sea Farms sites. The vessel is 22.8m in length with an 8m beam and a lightship displacement of 120 tonnes. She has a service speed of 9 knots with a maximum speed of 10.5 knots.

This compact class of tug is a series of high-performance but relatively straight forward smaller tugs, all less than 24m in length. New Zealand’s Q-West to Build High-speed Ferry

As with most island nations, New Zealand is heavily dependent on ferries. By this time next year, there will be a new ferry added to the Auckland-based Fullers Group fleet. Currently being constructed at Q-West Boat Builders Ltd. on the Wanganui River, the Incat Crowther-designed catamaran will join a large number of aluminum vessels launched from this versatile yard. At 34 by 9.5 meters, with a molded depth of 3.05 meters, this will be among the larger vessels delivered from this yard.

A New Era in Fleeting

Ship docking tugs now take the Z-drive for granted, but it has found only limited acceptance for river towboats. That is about to change with a new boat being built for The Carline Companies at Raymond and Associates in Bayou LaBatre. One of the Carline companies is the Burnside Fleet located at Mile 169 on the lower Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. When the big tows of up to 40 195 x 35-foot barges come down river, it is the fleeting tugs job to take selected barges off the tow and park them in the riverside fleet.

Tugboat Handed Over by Turkish Yard

Sanmar deliver the tugboat 'Ulupinar 14' to its owner, UK's SMS Towage, after a 6-month charter. Some 15 of this exclusive and versatile ASD model designed by the Robert Allan Limited team with considerable input from Ali Gurun, project director at Sanmar, have now been built. However, Ulupinar 14, although having been completed back in July 2012, has only just been handed over to its new owners, the UK’s SMS Towage with the new name of Statesman. The vessel had spent the intervening six months on a successful charter with Egyptian interests.

First class Captain from Alnmaritec

Alnmaritec, the specialist aluminium boat builder based in Northumberland, recently announced the delivery of the first of its new ‘Wave Captain’ class of Wind Farm Support Vessels. The new design is a derivative of the larger Wave Master class vessels which have proved highly successful in service and features the unique high efficiency hull form developed by Alnmaritec over the last year using extensive CFD modelling and towing tank testing. Ultrajets for Norwegian Aquaculture Boats

Established by Markus N. Hansen in 1919 and later with his brother Realf the company started out originally repairing and building engines. In the mid-1970s Grovfjord Mek Verksted AS progressed to building aluminium and steel fishing boats up to 88ft in length, and in the 1990s receiving contracts for the repair and building of shrimp trawlers.
