Singapore Bunker Supplier Loses License

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) revoked the bunker supplier license of Southernpec (Singapore) Pte Ltd., effective May 29, 2019. During a recent enforcement check, MPA found that Southernpec employees engaged in bunker malpractices, which include the use of magnets to interfere with the mass flow meter during bunkering operations. Its cargo officers also did not record the information in the bunkering documents accurately, which breached the terms and conditions of its bunker supplier license.

Marine technology specialists Wartsila’s  energy-saving propeller cap has been included in the 2019 Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s EcoAction Program which offers harbor dues discounts for vessels calling at the Port of Vancouver that meet environmental best practices.The listing is in the vessel quieting category, which awards a 23 percent discount in harbor dues for vessels utilizing this technology. SCHOTTEL Thrusters for New Fireboat

A state-of-the-art propulsion system helps to maek Branddirektor Westphal as one of the most high-tech fireboats in Europe.The vessel, operated by Flotte Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), and built at the Fassmer shipyard in Lower Saxony, is scheduled to enter service in the Port of Hamburg shortly.The new vessel is fitted with SCHOTTEL thrusters: two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers and two SCHOTTEL Transverse Thrusters.The Branddirektor Westphal is powered by two Caterpillar C18 engines, each with an output of 500 kW.

Contaminated Fuels Clog Ship Engines in Singapore

Contaminated marine fuel that clogs and damages ship engines has been found in Singapore, the world's largest ship refuelling hub, according to sources and an alert sent to clients by a marine fuel surveying company.Singapore-based marine fuel surveyor and consulting firm Maritec Pte Ltd warned clients this week that six samples of ship fuel sold in Singapore had "resulted in severe sludging at centrifuges, clogged pipelines, overwhelmed fuel filters".The Singapore findings follow reports of more than 100 vessels that loaded similarly contaminated fuel in the U.S.

Keppel to Deliver SE Asia's First LNG-powered Tug

Singapore-based Keppel Corp said on Wednesday its offshore rig-building unit is on track to deliver in May what the shipbuilder said will be the first tugboat in southeast Asia that can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The vessel will be one of seven dual-fuel vessels the company is building, and will be able to run on LNG and diesel, a spokesman for Keppel said, without disclosing how much the ship cost to build. A second dual-fuel LNG tug is due to be delivered by June or July, he said.

Two Newbuilds Delivered to Virgin Islands Port Authority

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark said it has delivered two custom welded aluminum vessels to the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA).The new vessels, a 45-foot pilot boat and a 32-foot port security vessel, were designed by Metal Shark and built at the company’s Jeanerette, La. production facility. Both vessels were recently delivered to St. Thomas and transferred to VIPA and are now operating from the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Facility on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront where they serve the island of St. Thomas and nearby St.

Hybrid Patrol Boat Launched at Port of Rotterdam

A new hybrid patrol vessel has entered into service last week at the Port of Rotterdam. The new 25-meter vessel, the RPA 8, can run on both diesel and diesel-electric, and causes less vessel wake and is much more efficient than other Port Authority vessels. RPA 8 was built by Kooiman Group in Zwijndrecht to replace the RPA 3, which had reached the end of its technical and economic service life. RPA 8 uses considerably less fuel, while the hybrid propulsion system enables efficient patrolling at low speeds and reduces the number of hours the diesel engines need to run at low load operation.

MPA Pumps $8.9 Mln More into Singapore's LNG Bunkering

FueLNG Completes First Commercial LNG Bunkering in Singapore

FueLNG, a joint venture between Keppel and Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd (Shell), has achieved the first commercial Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker transfer in Singapore by completing truck-to-ship bunkering for the Floating Liquefaction (FLNG) vessel, Hilli Episeyo. The LNG bunker transfer, which was carried out in batches from July 22, to September 23, 2017, was conducted in accordance with the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC) Technical Reference for LNG Bunkering (TR 56), which provides a safe, efficient and sustainable technical framework for LNG bunkering operations.
