Rolls-Royce to Design and Power Trawler for Prestfjord
Rolls-Royce has received a supply order from Spain’s Astilleros Gondan shipyard for the design, propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems for what has been dubbed one of world’s most advanced fishing vessels.Scheduled for delivery in 2020 to Prestfjord Seafood, a division of Norway’s Holmøy Maritime, the 77m trawler will be based on a Rolls-Royce NVC 732 WP design arranged with triple trawl and pelagic trawl for operation in Arctic waters catching white fish and shrimps. Rolls-Royce has delivered its 1,000th azimuth thruster to Damen in what marks a milestone achievement in a relationship that spans more than 30 years. Rolls-Royce will provide an extensive range of equipment, including MTU marine generator sets, to a new fleet of U.S. Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutters (USCG OPC). Nor-Lines, Rolls-Royce Sign Service Agreement
Nor Lines and Rolls-Royce have signed a “Power-by-the-Hour” service agreement for the two vessels Kvitbjørn and Kvitnos. The new service offering harnesses the power of “big data” to monitor, plan and perform maintenance and repairs on all the equipment it has installed on the cargo vessels. Power-by-the-Hour is a completely new service from Rolls-Royce Marine, and the agreement with Nor Lines is the first of its kind. The service builds Rolls-Royce’s many years of experience with equipment monitoring, proactive servicing and available solutions in the aerospace market.

Rolls-Royce Extends Naval Services in the Gulf
Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to provide naval shipbuilding, repair and refit activities across the Gulf region. The MoU is for a definitive agreement for the provision of services, with the objective of becoming a preferred service partner to each other. The agreement will include fixed service rates for onsite service attendance and turnkey repair projects in the Rolls-Royce Dubai workshop.
Daintith Named CFO, Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce announced that Stephen Daintith has been appointed Chief Financial Officer and as an executive director of Rolls-Royce Holdings plc. Stephen will take up his new role in 2017, succeeding David Smith who will leave Rolls-Royce after three years to pursue other business interests. Stephen Daintith is currently Chief Financial Officer of Daily Mail & General Trust plc. Previously he was employed by News International as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer of Dow Jones & Co.
Rolls-Royce to Upgrade PSVs with Battery Packs
Six offshore platform supply vessels (PSVs) built and then laid up by the Cosco Guangdong yard in China will be equipped with battery-powered energy systems from Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine before going to work for SEACOSCO. The six vessels are among eight that were laid up at the shipyard after being ordered in 2013 and 2014 that were recently taken over by SEACOSCO, a joint venture between SEACOR Marine Holding and China Cosco Shipping Group. The vessel’s new owners have decided to give six of the vessels an environmental upgrade, with an option for a further two.
Rolls-Royce to Equip Baydelta’s New Hybrid Tug
Rolls-Royce said it will supply a hybrid propulsion arrangement for installation to a multipurpose tractor tug being built for Baydelta Maritime LLC at the Nichols Brothers Boat Builders shipyard in Washington State, U.S. The 100-foot long tug is due for delivery in the first quarter of 2019, and will feature the same ship assist and tanker escort capabilities of existing Delta Class harbor tugs but with improved towing performance. Rolls-Royce to Power New York's Newest Luxury Ferry
Rolls-Royce has won a contract to supply power and propulsion to New York’s newest and largest high-speed luxury ferry. The catamaran, operated by New Jersey based Seastreak, will carry up to 600 passengers between Monmouth County, N.J. and Wall Street in less than 40 minutes at a top speed of 35 knots. Power comes from four high-speed MTU diesel engines type 12V 4000 M64 from Rolls-Royce. The engines will be EPA Tier III compliant and offer the lowest emissions on the market. The four engines will drive four Rolls-Royce Kamewa 63S4 waterjets, providing both reliability and redundancy.
Sanmar Orders 42 Rolls-Royce Thrusters
Rolls-Royce said it has secured an extensive supply order from long-time collaborator Sanmar Shipyards for propulsion and deck equipment for tugboats the Turkish shipyard is building for various customers. The scope of supply includes 42 Rolls-Royce US 205/255 azimuth thrusters for 21 harbor/terminal/escort tugs in the 60-, 70- and 80-metric-ton bollard-pull range and high-pressure hydraulic towing winched for the 80-metric-ton models. All vessels are based on new designs developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., exclusively for Sanmar.
Rolls-Royce Powers Chinese Fast Ferry
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Afai Southern Shipyard (Panyu Guangzhou) Ltd. to provide power and propulsion for a third Blue Sea Jet, fast ferry for the Zhuhai High-Speed Passenger Ferry Co., Ltd. The catamaran ferry, which will carry 288 passengers between Zhuhai and Hong Kong, will be driven by twin MTU 16V 4000M70 engines powering Rolls-Royce Kamewa S71-4 waterjets. The vessel is the company’s third in a series of Rolls-Royce powered catamarans to be commissioned, the first of which, Hai Qin, was delivered in February 2016.
Rolls-Royce Inks US Waterjets Distribution, Service Deal
Rolls-Royce has signed a deal with Pacific Power Group to distribute and service Kamewa steel and aluminum series waterjets in the Western U.S., Alaska and Hawaii. Pacific Power Group, a longtime distributor for Rolls-Royce MTU diesel engines, has been providing sales, service and engineering solutions for the marine industry for over 30 years. By joining forces with Pacific Power Group, Rolls-Royce customers will have access to a single source provider for a complete range of propulsion components including engines, control systems and waterjets.

Systems integrator and equipment maker Rolls-Royce has quietly been adding hybridizing energy-storage packages to a diverse list of vessels. Yet, so, too, has one of its clients — Louisiana-based SEACOR Marine, as it reacts early to tightened emissions and energy-management standards, or EMS, for vessels plying Europe and North America. Fuel savings and energy-company clients seeking green credentials are, it turns out, just part of the upside driving battery retrofits.The fuel savings to be had for keeping thrusters on battery power are a powerful selling point, to be sure.
Rolls-Royce's Autocrossing System for 13 New Ferries
Rolls-Royce Marine has signed a deal to supply its Autocrossing system to a total of 13 new environmentally friendly ferries for the Norwegian company Fjord1. The vessels are currently being built by three yards in Turkey and two yards in Norway. All contracts also include two azipull propellers for each vessel with accompanying propeller control system from Rolls-Royce. With this contract, Rolls-Royce has sold autocrossing to a total of 18 new ferries to operate along the coast of Norway, of which 16 have been ordered by Fjord1 and two by another Norwegian ferry company, FosenNamsos Sjø.
