New Red Funnel Catamaran with MTU Engines Ready for Operation
UK operator Red Funnel's 40-m, 277-passenger Red Jet 7 fast ferry will enter service in July after its commissioned in June. Built in the UK by the Wight Shipyard Co., Rolls-Royce supplied the four MTU 10V 2000 M72 engines to power the ferry. Powered by four 900 kW MTU Series 2000 engines, Red Jet 7 has a top speed of 38 knots while also meeting the IMO for Tier II certification.The aluminum catamaran is to join its sister ships Red Jet 6, Red Jet 4 and Red Jet 3 in plying between Southampton and the Isle of Wight.

First Daegu-class Frigate Delivered to Korean Navy
The Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) has taken delivery of its first Daegu-class (FFX-II) frigate. South Korea’s defense procurement agency, Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) formally handed over the ship to the Navy, the first of an eight-ship program. As well as the controllable pitch propellers, Rolls-Royce is on contract to provide the main propulsion power for the first four FFX-II ships with the Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine as part of a hybrid propulsion system, specifically designed to enhance Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities.

Rolls-Royce announced the appointment of Tom Bell as President and CEO of Rolls-Royce North America, a post he will hold alongside his current position as President – Defence. Rolls-Royce Propulsion for New Hong Kong Fast Ferries
Rolls-Royce said it has been contracted to deliver Kamewa waterjet propulsion units and MTU engines for three 42m high-speed, lightweight carbon fiber ferries for operation between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China. The vessels will be built at the Brødrene Aa shipyard in Norway. The same shipyard has also ordered Rolls-Royce propulsion for two similarly-sized ferries to serve routes in the north of Norway. As well as Kamewa steel-series waterjets from Rolls-Royce, all five vessels will be powered by MTU series 2000 diesel engines.
Sanmar Orders 42 Rolls-Royce Thrusters
Rolls-Royce said it has secured an extensive supply order from long-time collaborator Sanmar Shipyards for propulsion and deck equipment for tugboats the Turkish shipyard is building for various customers. The scope of supply includes 42 Rolls-Royce US 205/255 azimuth thrusters for 21 harbor/terminal/escort tugs in the 60-, 70- and 80-metric-ton bollard-pull range and high-pressure hydraulic towing winched for the 80-metric-ton models. All vessels are based on new designs developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., exclusively for Sanmar.
Seastreak Ferry Built with Delta 'T' Systems' Technology
Seastreak's new Commodore-class high-speed catamaran ferry is launching with Delta "T" Systems/Dinak modular dry stack engine and generator exhausts, and related ventilation equipment. The 150' x 40' 600-passenger Incat-Crowther-designed vessel is being built by Gulf Craft of Franklin, Louisiana, and due to be delivered in April. Delta "T" Systems/Dinak exhausts are modular, so installation is straightforward and fast—typically half the time. They're clamped together, not welded, thus reducing onsite labor costs.
Woodward Buys L’Orange from Rolls-Royce
Britain's Rolls-Royce said it had agreed to sell its Germany-based diesel parts maker L'Orange to U.S.-based engineering company Woodward Inc for 700 million euros ($859 million), as part of a plan to simplify its business. MTU Yuchai Power, a joint venture set up between Rolls-Royce Power Systems and the Chinese diesel engine manufacturer Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, is preparing for the start of series production of MTU Series 4000 engines. On 9 April, in the presence of over 100 guests, Yan Ping, Chairman of Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, together with Andreas Schell, President of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems business unit, unveiled the first MTU Series 4000 engine manufactured in Yulin.

Rolls-Royce's Autocrossing System for 13 New Ferries
Rolls-Royce Marine has signed a deal to supply its Autocrossing system to a total of 13 new environmentally friendly ferries for the Norwegian company Fjord1. The vessels are currently being built by three yards in Turkey and two yards in Norway. All contracts also include two azipull propellers for each vessel with accompanying propeller control system from Rolls-Royce. With this contract, Rolls-Royce has sold autocrossing to a total of 18 new ferries to operate along the coast of Norway, of which 16 have been ordered by Fjord1 and two by another Norwegian ferry company, FosenNamsos Sjø.
Up to Nine Hurtigruten Ships Will Switch to Hybrid Power
Norwegian cruise ferry operator Hurtigruten has signed a Letter of Intent with Rolls-Royce to upgrade up to nine vessels to hybrid power.The main engines on up to nine cruise ships will switch from diesel to gas power, and the upgrade will also include installation of a hybrid battery system.The deal comprises the supply of equipment to six existing passenger cruise vessels, with an option for a further three. The ships will completely change their power system with the installation of new Rolls-Royce liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines as part of a new hybrid system.
Rolls-Royce to Design, Equip New Fishing Vessel
Rolls-Royce said it has signed a contract to deliver ship design and a range of equipment to a 70-meter long stern trawler to be built for Olympic Seafood based in Fosnavåg, Norway.The fishing vessel is to be built by Cemre shipyard in Turkey, who also holds a contracted option for a second vessel of the same type for Olympic Seafood.The vessel is designed for bottom trawling as well as pelagic trawling and will have a modern factory deck arrangement to handle and freeze both white fish and shrimp and ensure a high quality catch. The vessel is expected to be delivered in 2020.
Rolls-Royce Wins Order for MTU Engines in Brazil
Rolls-Royce said it has won an order to supply MTU engines for four new tugs for Aliança Navegação, a company owned by the Hamburg Süd shipping line. The shipping company uses 16-cylinder MTU Series 4000 propulsion systems throughout its Brazilian tugboat fleet consisting of seven harbor tugs, two of which are deployed in São Francisco in the north of Santa Catarina. The remaining five tugboats are still to undergo commissioning.All tugs are being built by Detroit Brasil Ltda.
