Rolls-Royce Invests $65m to Upgrade Thruster Facility

Thrustmaster Buys Rolls-Royce DP

Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine has signed an agreement to sell the product Dynamic Positioning (DP) to the U.S. based company Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc.The agreement means that Thrustmaster of Texas now takes over the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) required to produce and sell the DP product. Rolls-Royce Delivers Ship Design, Equipment to New Fishing Vessel

Rolls-Royce, Finferries Demonstrate First Fully Autonomous Ferry

Rolls-Royce and Finnish state-owned ferry operator Finferries have successfully demonstrated the world’s first fully autonomous ferry in the archipelago south of the city of Turku, Finland.The car ferry Falco, used a combination of Rolls-Royce Ship Intelligence technologies to successfully navigate autonomously during its voyage between Parainen and Nauvo. The return journey was conducted under remote control.During the demonstration, the Falco, with 80 invited VIP guests aboard, conducted the voyage under fully autonomous control.

Rolls-Royce Receives AIP For Hybrid Tug Propulsion System

Rolls-Royce received Approval in Principle (AIP) from classification organization ABS for its novel hybrid propulsion system for tractor tugs.The AIP was granted following an evaluation of the world’s first hybrid tug, a unique vessel designed by Jensen Maritime and which Nichols Brothers Boat Builders will deliver to Baydelta Maritime LLC in February 2019. MTU Gensets for UK Navy Ships

Rolls-Royce is to supply 18 MTU Series 4000 diesel generator sets to BAE Systems as part of the Power Improvement Project (PIP) to increase the resilience of the power and propulsion system in all six Type 45 destroyers. The two existing diesel gensets are to be replaced by three MTU gensets per vessel. NBBB to Build Four Foss Tractor Tugs

Foss Maritime of Seattle has entered into contract with Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) of Freeland, Wash. for the construction of four new 90-ton bollard pull tractor tugs, with an option for six additional tugs to follow. The contract marks the first between Foss Maritime and Nichols Brothers Boat Builders.Foss has selected a design by Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle. The 100’ x 40’ Z-Drive tractor tugs will be built to United States Coast Guard Subchapter “M” regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

Norway Should Invest in Kongsberg Share Issue -Government

Norway should invest about 2.5 billion Norwegian crowns ($306.26 million) in Kongsberg Gruppen's planned share issue, to help pay for the firm's acquisition of Rolls-Royce's Commercial Marine unit, the government proposed on Friday.If approved by parliament, the proposal would allow the government to uphold its stake of 50.01 percent in Kongsberg Gruppen.The acquisition and the government's intention to take part in a share issue were first announced in July.($1 = 8.1631 Norwegian crowns)(Reporting by Terje Solsvik, editing by Nerijus Adomaitis)

New MTU Hybrid Propulsion Systems Introduced

Rolls-Royce has launched a new range of smaller, more compact podded propulsion systems: the ELegance pods – one with an open propeller, the other ducted.Per Nahnfeldt, General Manager Product – Electric Propulsion, Rolls-Royce, said, “For many years we have recognized the gap in the propulsion market for smaller pods, including ice-class, in the 1.5MW to 7MW power range. Rolls-Royce Battery System for Two Offshore Vessels

Rolls-Royce Equips Hybrid/LNG Live Fish Carrier

Nordlaks in Stokmarknes, Norway, is currently building a 385m long and 60m wide offshore salmon farm. The installation is being built at the CIMC Raffles yard in China. Nordlaks has also ordered a new hybrid/LNG live fish carrier (wellboat) to be built at the Tersan shipyard in Turkey. Rolls-Royce has been commissioned to provide equipment for both newbuilds, which have been designed by NSK Ship Design.Rolls-Royce will supply six TT1100 tunnel thrusters to the massive fish farm, which has been designed to produce salmon further offshore than has been possible so far.
