Keppel to Deliver SE Asia's First LNG-powered Tug
Singapore-based Keppel Corp said on Wednesday its offshore rig-building unit is on track to deliver in May what the shipbuilder said will be the first tugboat in southeast Asia that can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The vessel will be one of seven dual-fuel vessels the company is building, and will be able to run on LNG and diesel, a spokesman for Keppel said, without disclosing how much the ship cost to build. A second dual-fuel LNG tug is due to be delivered by June or July, he said.
Shell Mulls Refinery Upgrade to Meet 2020 Sulphur Rules
Royal Dutch Shell is considering expanding the capacity of one of its German refineries to make oil products that meet an upcoming cap on the sulphur content of fuels used in shipping. In the past few days, Rheinland refinery representatives met local officials and environmental groups to present preliminary plans for an investment at the plant's 140,000-barrels-per-day Wesseling site, Shell said on the refinery's website. The global shipping sector is under pressure from governments to reduce harmful emissions from vessels, including sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (C02), by using cleaner fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) rather than traditional heavy fuel oil and diesel sources.
Sovcomflot’s New LNG Carrier Named
A naming ceremony was held on April 9, 2015 in South Korea for SCF Mitre, the fourth vessel in a series of state-of-the-art Atlanticmax-type LNG carriers built for Sovcomflot (SCF Group). The vessel, as with her sistership SCF Melampus that joined SCF Group’s fleet in January 2015, will be operated under a long-term time charter to Royal Dutch Shell. A series of Atlanticmax-type LNG carriers have been constructed under a joint project developed by Sovcomflot and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding.

Shell Charters Four Transocean New Drillships
Transocean Ltd. awarded 10-year contracts for four newbuild dynamically positioned ultra-deepwater drillships by Royal Dutch Shell (Shell). Shipyard delivery for the first drillship is scheduled for mid-2015. The remaining three drillships are expected to be delivered from the shipyard at approximately six-month intervals thereafter. After customer acceptance, the contracts are expected to commence in 2015 and 2016, contributing an estimated revenue backlog of $7.6 billion, excluding mobilization.
MAN PrimeServ Engine Management Contract
Nakilat’s wholly owned fleet of LNG ships is now covered by MAN PrimeServ, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s after-sales division, after an EMC maintenance agreement signed with STASCO – the shipping division of Royal Dutch Shell – which manages the Nakilat ships. The contract covers a period of 10 years and represents a breakthrough for the Engine Management Concept in that the contract covers an entire fleet. The agreement covers maintenance management/planning, assistance from PrimeServ superintendent engineers and fitters, as well as spare-parts for 25 LNG carriers (14 Q-Max and 11 Q-Flex).
