Chevron Aims to Shrink the Carbon Footprint of Its LNG Fleet

Sembcorp Marine Names LNG Hybrid Tug in Singapore

Sembcorp Marine celebrated the naming of JMS Sunshine, its first of a series of LNG hybrid tugs specially designed for domestic service in Singapore.Sembcorp Marine commissioned the design and build of the world’s first LNG hybrid tug in 2018, and the company plans to build a fleet of tugs to progressively replace the existing diesel-powered fleet operated by Jurong Marine Services (JMS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine Ltd and a licensed operator of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Sembmarine Builds Zero-emissions RoPax Ferry for Norled

Sembcorp Marine announced it has completed fabrication of the first of three identical battery-operated roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) ferries for Norwegian ferry operator Norled.The newly built Hella will be launched into operation for Norled’s shortsea Hella-Vangsnes-Dragsvik connections in Norway.Designed by Sembcorp Marine subsidiary LMG Marin, the vessels incorporate energy-efficient solutions throughout, including quick connection shore charging plugs; auto-mooring; auto-cross; efficient hull, propulsion and heat recovery systems; as well as minimized hotel and auxiliary loads.

LMG Marin to Design Zero-emissions Fuel Tanker

Naval architecture firm LMG Marin has secured a contract to design a zero-emissions tanker for Grieg Edge, the dedicated innovation unit of the Grieg Maritime Group. Retrofit of air lubrication technology achieves verified performance of 6.6% net savings during initial testing.Silverstream Technologies' air lubrication system, the Silverstream System, has reportedly delivered 6.6% fuel and emissions savings during testing on the Shell-chartered 170,000 cbm LNG carrier Methane Patricia Camila.The Silverstream System is designed to enable fuel and emissions efficiencies by producing a thin layer of microbubbles along the full flat bottom of the vessel, reducing frictional resistance between the water and the hull.

The main propulsion system of the Sembcorp hybrid tug comprises twin 16-cyclinder mtu Series 4000 gas units which will provide a combined total power of 2984 kilowatts. The new engines are part of Rolls-Royce's Green and High-Tech program. Wärtsilä Thrusters on Sea Trials for Large SSCV

Performance of the propulsion solutions supplied by the technology group Wärtsilä exceeded the design specification and contributed to the success of the sea trials for the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV). The ‘Sleipnir’ was built at Sembcorp Marine’s Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore for the Dutch offshore contractor Heerema Offshore Services (HOS). It was delivered from the yard in July.The huge vessel is designed for heavy lifting operations and is fitted with two cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes.

SCHOTTEL Wins Deal for Three Hybrid Ferries

SCHOTTEL secured a contract to provide propulsion units for three newly built hybrid ferries under construction at Sembcorp Marine, Singapore. Each of the double ended RoPax ferries will be equipped with two SCHOTTEL EcoPellers type SRE 340 FP. The vessels will be driven by an battery/diesel electric hybrid system and will be operated during their transits by green battery power. The main propulsion for the LMG 80-DEH design ferries consists of PM motor driven SCHOTTEL EcoPellers type SRE 340 with 2.1 m diameter fixed pitch propellers.

Sembcorp Marine's PPL Shipyard secures rig orders worth US$434-million to build two jack-up rigs for the Mexican market. PPL Shipyard has secured two turnkey contracts with a combined value of US$434 million for the construction of two units of jack-up rigs from Integradora de Servicios Petroleros Oro Negro, S.A.P.I. de C.V. ("Oro Negro").
