French builder Alumarine Shipyard has delivered a new hydrographic survey boat to the Port of La Rochelle.The eight-meter aluminum vessel, dubbed Cassiopée, is powered by a dual electric/diesel propulsion system. World's First: Torqeedo Powers Electric Freefall Lifeboat

The German manufacturer of electric outboards Torqeedo provided the integrated propulsion system for the world’s first electric-powered freefall lifeboat, which is being built by the Dutch builder Verhoef.The vessel recently passed its final drop tests, making it the first fully functional electric lifeboat in the world, said a press release from the company.The first of the new Verhoef aluminium 32-passenger lifeboats will be deployed on an offshore platform in the new Valhall Flank West oilfield project in Norway.

Powered by China, Deutz Earnings Surge 37%

In its interim report for the first half of 2018, engine maker DEUTZ AG reports that in the first half new orders surged nearly 37 percent to €1.096 billion. Unit sales in the first half of 2018 came to 105,201, which included 6,345 electric motors sold under the Torqeedo brand. This was an increase of 32.2 per cent on the number of engines sold in the prior year period (H1 2017: unit sales of 75,599). Revenue amounted to €877.6 million, which was 19.5 percent higher than the €734.5 million generated in the first half of last year.

Canadian Electric Boat Company, Torqeedo Power New Rental Fleet

Canadian Electric Boat Company and Torqeedo has announced that Canada’s electric boat rental fleet will expand by 27 vessels to serve the new Route de Champlain. Canadian Electric Boat Company (CEBC) will build the vessels powered by emission-free Torqeedo motors.The Route de Champlain is a designated tourist route which allows visitors a new way to discover the beauty of Canada’s waterways. Starting in 2018, visitors will navigate a path closely aligned to renowned explorer Samuel de Champlain’s historic journey via kayak, canoe or electric boat.
