Total’s First LNG Bunker Vessel Launched

Total said its first large liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel has been launched, following the signature of a long-term charter contract between Total and Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) in February 2018.After delivery in 2020, the bunker vessel will operate in Northern Europe, where it will supply LNG to commercial vessels, including 300,000 tons per year for CMA CGM’s nine ultra-large newbuild containerships in Europe-Asia trade, for a period of at least 10 years.The LNG bunker…

Partners Developing LNG-fueled VLCC

Partners involved in a new joint development project (JDP) have set out to design a very large crude carrier (VLCC) that will run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel.Lloyd's Register (LR), China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. (CMES), CNOOC Gas and Power Group, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. "Green" Ammonia's Future as a Marine Fuel

Ammonia, the same pungent solution used in fertilizers and cleaning agents, may one day be the key to transporting renewable energy around the world. There are currently a number of government and corporate projects assessing the feasibility of converting excess renewable energy from sources like wind, solar, tidal and nuclear into ammonia and then back into usable energy.In its purist form, ammonia or NH3 is composed of one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms making it an ideal candidate to chemically bind excess renewable energy.

NorthStar Midstream Forms LNG Marine Transport Firm

NorthStar Midstream, a portfolio company of funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., has announced the formation of Polaris New Energy (“PNE”), a marine transportation company focused on the transportation and distribution of liquefied natural gas (LNG) along the coastal and inland waterways of the United States.NorthStar has executed an agreement with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding to build a 5,400 cubic meter (CBM), with the ability to potentially construct two sister barges, for coastwise transportation of LNG.

Indonesia Exempts Domestic Fleet from IMO 2020 rules

German-based power generator MAN Energy Solutions is joining a partnership aimed at expanding hydrogen storage systems based on the Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology.MAN has signed on to a cooperative agreement with Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies and Frames Group B.V.
