Wärtsilä and Silverstream to Collaborate
Technology group Wärtsilä, and Silverstream Technologies announced the signing of a Licence and Co-operation Agreement for future sales and servicing of the Silverstream System. As an authorized sales and service partner, Wärtsilä intends to fully integrate Silverstream’s air lubrication system within its propulsion solutions.By offering the Silverstream System as an integral part of Wärtsilä’s propulsion solution for newbuild vessels, compliance with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) will be further improved.
Harvey Gulf PSV Receives Hybrid Retrofit
Harvey Energy, the first platform supply vessel (PSV) to be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) will become the first PSV in the Americas to be hybrid retrofitted. The vessel's owner, Louisiana-based Harvey Gulf International Marine, has ordered an energy storage solution from the technology group Wärtsilä to significantly enhance Harvey Energy's efficiency and environmental performance. The installation of a Wärtsilä 1450 kW battery hybrid solution will reduce the ship’s exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, and noise level.
ESS Saves Fuel for North Sea Construction Ship
One of the world’s largest and most advanced subsea construction vessels has been equipped with three energy storage systems (ESS), featuring for the first time ever energy and load sharing capability.Finland based technology group Wärtsilä said the new system on board North Sea Shipping AS owned North Sea Giant combines a diesel-electric configuration with batteries, and is designed to deliver as much as 50 percent fuel savings in optimal operating conditions. The installation was carried out in February 2018.
Wärtsilä Modular Waterjets Upgraded
The technology group Wärtsilä has announced that its LJX series of modular waterjets has been upgraded to deliver even greater efficiency with low levels of cavitation and underwater noise. Following this upgrading, the company’s modular waterjets will be redesignated as the Wärtsilä WXJ series. The development is based on a new axial pump design, which boosts performance with an increased thrust of as much as 3 percent, while the improved cavitation margins help reduce the environmental impact by lowering noise levels.
Wärtsilä Debuts New Tug Designs
A new portfolio of tug designs, to be known as the Wärtsilä HYTug series, place emphasis on environmental sustainability. Since tugs typically operate in or close to harbors and populated areas, they are particularly affected by environmental considerations, and the need for regulatory compliance is an increasing concern for tug owners and operators worldwide. Having already introduced tug designs featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel technology as an efficient means for complying with environmental legislation…
IMO Tier III Wärtsilä Engines Power Mega Yachts
The technology group Wärtsilä is to supply the main engines for a new and innovative expedition mega yacht, owned by Genting Hong Kong which also owns the MV WERFTEN yards in Germany where the vessel is to be built. There is an option for an additional two vessels in this "Endeavor" class series. The order with Wärtsilä was booked in March 2017. The new vessel will be the world's largest expedition mega yacht with ice class certification, and will be able to operate in polar region waters.
Wärtsilä to Optimize Performance for Songa Offshore Drill Rigs
The technology group Wärtsilä has signed a five-year technical management and services agreement with Songa Offshore for four Cat-D type semi-submersible drilling rigs operating in the North Sea. Through the partnership with Wärtsilä, Songa Offshore ensures optimal performance and maximum availability of the Wärtsilä engines and thrusters on board the drilling rigs, which operate in extremely harsh conditions. This is possible with real-time knowledge of the actual condition of the equipment, provided by Wärtsilä's digital offering.
