FUELTRAX Plans EFMS Event in Nigeria
FUELTRAX will host a free one-day electronic fuel monitoring solution (EFMS) symposium in Lagos, Nigeria on June 28, to demonstrate the impact of FUELTRAX technology in the West Africa Region.Representatives from FUELTRAX will inform how the electronic fuel monitoring solution can ensure fuel security, guarantee compliance and optimize the performance. Royston Expands UK Engineering Facilities
Royston Diesel Power has doubled the size of its UK engineering facilities to support continuing global growth in its marine engine service business and new technology development. As part of a £500,000 ($676,000) investment program the company has opened an additional 15,000 sq. ft. of engineering workshop premises alongside its existing headquarters on the banks of the River Tyne. As well as increasing the company’s engine repair and maintenance capability, the new center will also provide a focus for a range of other technical support functions.
Propeller Repairs Increase as Winter Approaches
Hydrex Underwater Technology has registered an increase in the number of vessels experiencing propeller damage. Dave Bleyenberg, Hydrex Production Executive, explained: “While winter months usually result in an increase in propeller repairs, this normally occurs between January and March. In November, a Hydrex team was called out to Taranto, Italy, to inspect a 27,500dwt general cargo ship, whose engineers had reported excessive vibration from its five blade, 5m diameter propeller as the vessel returned from operations. The cause of the vibration was two bent propeller blades.

Turbocharger Overhaul for Tidewater OSVs
Marine engineering teams from diesel power specialist Royston Limited have carried out the overhaul of turbochargers on two offshore supply ships operated by Tidewater Marine in the oilfields off the coast of South West Africa. Royston said its engineers completed the full overhaul of Napier NA297 turbochargers on the Melton Tide firefighting and offshore support vessel and the success of this work led to more recent service work being undertaken on the Netherland Tide, multipurpose support vessel.

New Fuel Rules Could Prompt Gasoil Price Spike
New fuel rules for ships entering low sulphur zones around northwest Europe and North America next year could trigger a price spike in European gasoil, whilst refiners will struggle to offload unwanted fuel oil. From January 2015, ships entering "Emission Control Areas" (ECAs) in the Baltic, North Sea and English Channel and around the North American coast, will have to switch from low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) with 1 percent sulphur content to 0.1 percent gasoil, in a crackdown on marine pollution.

Six Thrusters Launched from Thrustmaster
Six Thrustmaster 5,000 HP (3,700 kW) Azimuth DP3 Thrusters classed by ABS were launched on November 25, 2013 during the OOS Gretha naming ceremony. The Brazil bound semisubmersible drilling rig was built at its ship yard in Yantai, China by CIMC Raffles and is due to work for Petrobras offshore. CIMC Raffles said it is the first asymmetric semisubmersible unit without bracing in the world. This reduces the towing resistance and dynamic positioning load, improving self propelled transit speed from an average 8 knots to more than 12 knots.

OW Bunker's West Africa Offshore Fueling Avoids Port Calls
OW Bunker, one of the world’s largest suppliers and traders of marine fuels and lubricants, have launched a physical fuel supply operation from its bunker tankship offshore West Africa, covering Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and offshore waters down to the Ivory Coast. OW Bunker Canary Islands will supply customers with the full range of fuels and lubricants from its newly launched 8,250dwt double-hulled tanker Wappen von Frankfurt, and the company say that a second vessel is due to be launched before the end of this year.
Korean Shipyard Delivers Container Ship ‘Hanjin Argentina’
The 3600 TEU container ship, built under the supervision of Navgathi Marine by Hyundai Sambo delivered to Pacific International Lines. Hanjin Argentina is the third of a series of four such vessels ordered by Pacific International Lines of Singapore from the S. Korea shipbuilders. Navgathi Marine is providing the new building supervision services to eight PIL vessels under construction at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea and a site team of Navgathi's is there to manage these projects.
Rolls-Royce Hits Century in Drillship Propulsion Orders
Rolls-Royce's milestone 100th contract is to deliver drillship propulsion systems to a Transocean rig. In recent months Rolls-Royce has won orders to supply propulsion systems for seven new drillships totaling close to £100 million, including options, from a variety of customers including Transocean. These ships will be built in the Samsung, Daewoo and Hyundai shipyards in Korea. Rolls-Royce is a leading supplier of large thrusters to these specialist vessels, with a market share in excess of 70 per cent.
China Shipyard Delivers AHTS Vessel to Martens Marine
Guangdong Yuexin Ocean Engineering has delivered the 'SMS Endeavour', an Anchor Handling Towing Supply (AHTS) Vessel . SMS Endeavour is intended for operations in the offshore waters of Asia, West Africa, and Middle East. The Martens Marine E 65T Series vessels are powered by twin CAT 3516C engines at 5,150 brake horsepower. These engines are in compliance with US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Marine Tier 2 Commercial Regulations. Vessels in this series are also equipped with twin Kawasaki bow thrusters of 8T capacity each, and a set of Becker high-lift performance rudders.
